 My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor, Have given a pledge for a stranger,1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,1 My son, if you guarantee a loan for your neighbor or pledge yourself for a stranger with a handshake,1 My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger;1 My son, if thou hast become surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand for a stranger,
 If you have been snared with the words of your mouth, Have been caught with the words of your mouth,2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.2 you are trapped by the words of your own mouth, caught by your own promise.2 You are trapped by the words of your mouth. You are ensnared with the words of your mouth.2 thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
 Do this then, my son, and deliver yourself; Since you have come into the hand of your neighbor, Go, humble yourself, and importune your neighbor.3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.3 Do the following things, my son, so that you may free yourself, because you have fallen into your neighbor's hands: Humble yourself, and pester your neighbor.3 Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, since you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, since thou hast come into the hand of thy friend: go, humble thyself, and be urgent with thy friend.
 Give no sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids;4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.4 Don't let your eyes rest or your eyelids close.4 Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids:
 Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hunter's hand And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.5 Free yourself like a gazelle from the hand of a hunter and like a bird from the hand of a hunter.5 Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.5 deliver thyself as a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

 Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise,6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:6 Consider the ant, you lazy bum. Watch its ways, and become wise.6 Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise;6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways and be wise:
 Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler,7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,7 Although it has no overseer, officer, or ruler,7 which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,7 which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,
 Prepares her food in the summer And gathers her provision in the harvest.8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.8 in summertime it stores its food supply. At harvest time it gathers its food.8 provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.8 provideth her bread in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
 How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?9 How long will you lie there, you lazy bum? When will you get up from your sleep?9 How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?9 How long, sluggard, wilt thou lie down? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
 "A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest "--10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:10 "Just a little sleep, just a little slumber, just a little nap."10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest!
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Your poverty will come in like a vagabond And your need like an armed man.11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.11 Then your poverty will come [to you]like a drifter, and your need will come [to you]like a bandit.11 so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man.11 So shall thy poverty come as a roving plunderer, and thy penury as an armed man.
 A worthless person, a wicked man, Is the one who walks with a perverse mouth,12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.12 A good-for-nothing scoundrel is a person who has a dishonest mouth.12 A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth;12 A man of Belial, a wicked person, is he that goeth about with a perverse mouth;
 Who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, Who points with his fingers;13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;13 He winks his eye, makes a signal with his foot, [and] points with his fingers.13 who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers;13 he winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
 Who with perversity in his heart continually devises evil, Who spreads strife.14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.14 He devises evil all the time with a twisted mind. He spreads conflict.14 in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who always sows discord.14 deceits are in his heart; he deviseth mischief at all times, he soweth discords.
 Therefore his calamity will come suddenly; Instantly he will be broken and there will be no healing.15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.15 That is why disaster will come on him suddenly. In a moment he will be crushed beyond recovery.15 Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly: in a moment shall he be broken, and without remedy.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:16 There are six things that the LORD hates, even seven that are disgusting to him:16 There are six things which Yahweh hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him:16 These six things doth Jehovah hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood,17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,17 arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill innocent people,17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood;17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;
 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil,18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,18 a mind devising wicked plans, feet that are quick to do wrong,18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,18 a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations; feet that are swift in running to mischief;
 A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.19 a dishonest witness spitting out lies, and a person who spreads conflict among relatives.19 a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.19 a false witness that uttereth lies, and he that soweth discords among brethren.
 My son, observe the commandment of your father And do not forsake the teaching of your mother;20 My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:20 My son, obey the command of your father, and do not disregard the teachings of your mother.20 My son, keep your father's commandment, and don't forsake your mother's teaching.20 My son, observe thy father's commandment, and forsake not the teaching of thy mother;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck.21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.21 Fasten them on your heart forever. Hang them around your neck.21 Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck.21 bind them continually upon thy heart, tie them about thy neck:
 When you walk about, they will guide you; When you sleep, they will watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.22 When you walk around, they will lead you. When you lie down, they will watch over you. When you wake up, they will talk to you22 When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you.22 when thou walkest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
 For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And reproofs for discipline are the way of life23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:23 because the command is a lamp, the teachings are a light, and the warnings from discipline are the path of life23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching a light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
 To keep you from the evil woman, From the smooth tongue of the adulteress.24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.24 to keep you from an evil woman and from the smooth talk of a loose woman.24 to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife's tongue.24 to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
 Do not desire her beauty in your heart, Nor let her capture you with her eyelids.25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.25 Do not desire her beauty in your heart. Do not let her catch you with her eyes.25 Don't lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.25 Lust not after her beauty in thy heart, neither let her take thee with her eyelids;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 For on account of a harlot one is reduced to a loaf of bread, And an adulteress hunts for the precious life.26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.26 A prostitute's price is [only] a loaf of bread, but a married woman hunts for [your] life itself.26 For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.26 for by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a loaf of bread, and another's wife doth hunt for the precious soul.
 Can a man take fire in his bosom And his clothes not be burned?27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?27 Can a man carry fire in his lap without burning his clothes?27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned?27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his garments not be burned?
 Or can a man walk on hot coals And his feet not be scorched?28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?28 Can anyone walk on red-hot coals without burning his feet?28 Or can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?
 So is the one who goes in to his neighbor's wife; Whoever touches her will not go unpunished.29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.29 So it is with a man who has sex with his neighbor's wife. None who touch her will escape punishment.29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife: whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
 Men do not despise a thief if he steals To satisfy himself when he is hungry;30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;30 People do not despise a thief who is hungry when he steals to satisfy his appetite,30 Men don't despise a thief, if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry:30 They do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry:
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 But when he is found, he must repay sevenfold; He must give all the substance of his house.31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.31 but when he is caught, he has to repay it seven times. He must give up all the possessions in his house.31 but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.31 and if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
 The one who commits adultery with a woman is lacking sense; He who would destroy himself does it.32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.32 Whoever commits adultery with a woman has no sense. Whoever does this destroys himself.32 He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul.32 Whoso committeth adultery with a woman is void of understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
 Wounds and disgrace he will find, And his reproach will not be blotted out.33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.33 An adulterous man will find disease and dishonor, and his disgrace will not be blotted out, 33 He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away.33 A wound and contempt shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
 For jealousy enrages a man, And he will not spare in the day of vengeance.34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.34 because jealousy arouses a husband's fury. The husband will show no mercy when he takes revenge.34 For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. He won't spare in the day of vengeance.34 For jealousy is the rage of a man, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance;
 He will not accept any ransom, Nor will he be satisfied though you give many gifts.35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.35 No amount of money will change his mind. The largest bribe will not satisfy him.35 He won't regard any ransom, neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.35 he will not regard any ransom, neither will he rest content though thou multipliest thy gifts.
