| 1 A Song of Ascents. When the LORD brought back the captive ones of Zion, We were like those who dream. | 1 When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. | 1 [A song for going up to worship.] When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, it was as if we were dreaming. | 1 When Yahweh brought back those who returned to Zion, we were like those who dream. | 1 {A Song of degrees.} When Jehovah turned the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. | 2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter And our tongue with joyful shouting; Then they said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." | 2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them. | 2 Then our mouths were filled with laughter and our tongues with joyful songs. Then the nations said, "The LORD has done spectacular things for them." | 2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, "Yahweh has done great things for them." | 2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with rejoicing: then said they among the nations, Jehovah hath done great things for them. | 3 The LORD has done great things for us; We are glad. | 3 The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. | 3 The LORD has done spectacular things for us. We are overjoyed. | 3 Yahweh has done great things for us, and we are glad. | 3 Jehovah hath done great things for us; and we are joyful. | 4 Restore our captivity, O LORD, As the streams in the South. | 4 Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south. | 4 Restore our fortunes, O LORD, as you restore streams [to dry riverbeds] in the Negev. | 4 Restore our fortunes again, Yahweh, like the streams in the Negev. | 4 Turn our captivity, O Jehovah, as the streams in the south. | 5 Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting. | 5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. | 5 Those who cry while they plant will joyfully sing while they harvest. | 5 Those who sow in tears will reap in joy. | 5 They that sow in tears shall reap with rejoicing: | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
| 6 He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed, Shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him. | 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. | 6 The person who goes out weeping, carrying his bag of seed, will come home singing, carrying his bundles of grain. | 6 He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing, will certainly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves.
