Jesus before Pilate
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Early in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes and the whole Council, immediately held a consultation; and binding Jesus, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate.1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.1 Early in the morning the chief priests immediately came to a decision with the leaders and the scribes. The whole Jewish council decided to tie Jesus up, lead him away, and hand him over to Pilate.1 Immediately in the morning the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate.1 And immediately in the morning the chief priests, having taken counsel with the elders and scribes and the whole sanhedrim, bound Jesus and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate.
Pilate questioned Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And He answered him, "It is as you say."2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto them, Thou sayest it.2 Pilate asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" "Yes, I am," Jesus answered him.2 Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered, "So you say."2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered and said to him, Thou sayest.
The chief priests began to accuse Him harshly.3 And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.3 The chief priests were accusing him of many things.3 The chief priests accused him of many things.3 And the chief priests accused him urgently.
Then Pilate questioned Him again, saying, "Do You not answer? See how many charges they bring against You!"4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.4 So Pilate asked him again, "Don't you have any answer? Look how many accusations they're bringing against you!"4 Pilate again asked him, "Have you no answer? See how many things they testify against you!"4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? See of how many things they bear witness against thee.
But Jesus made no further answer; so Pilate was amazed.5 But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled.5 But Jesus no longer answered anything, so Pilate was surprised.5 But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate marveled.5 But Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate marvelled.

Now at the feast he used to release for them any one prisoner whom they requested.6 Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.6 At every Passover festival, Pilate would free one prisoner whom the people asked for.6 Now at the feast he used to release to them one prisoner, whom they asked of him.6 But at the feast he released to them one prisoner, whomsoever they begged of him.
The man named Barabbas had been imprisoned with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the insurrection.7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.7 There was a man named Barabbas in prison. He was with some rebels who had committed murder during a riot.7 There was one called Barabbas, bound with those who had made insurrection, men who in the insurrection had committed murder.7 Now there was the person named Barabbas bound with those who had made insurrection with him, and that had committed murder in the insurrection.
The crowd went up and began asking him to do as he had been accustomed to do for them.8 And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.8 The crowd asked Pilate to do for them what he always did.8 The multitude, crying aloud, began to ask him to do as he always did for them.8 And the crowd crying out began to beg that he would do to them as he had always done.
Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?"9 But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?9 Pilate answered them, "Do you want me to free the king of the Jews for you?"9 Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?"9 But Pilate answered them saying, Will ye that I release to you the King of the Jews?
For he was aware that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.10 Pilate knew that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him because they were jealous.10 For he perceived that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up.10 for he knew that the chief priests had delivered him up through envy.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead.11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.11 The chief priests stirred up the crowd so that Pilate would free Barabbas for them instead.11 But the chief priests stirred up the multitude, that he should release Barabbas to them instead.11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd that he might rather release Barabbas to them.
Answering again, Pilate said to them, "Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?"12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?12 So Pilate again asked them, "Then what should I do with the king of the Jews?"12 Pilate again asked them, "What then should I do to him whom you call the King of the Jews?"12 And Pilate answering said to them again, What will ye then that I do to him whom ye call King of the Jews?
They shouted back, "Crucify Him!"13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.13 "Crucify him!" they shouted back.13 They cried out again, "Crucify him!"13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.
But Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil has He done?" But they shouted all the more, "Crucify Him!"14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.14 Pilate said to them, "Why? What has he done wrong?" But they shouted even louder, "Crucify him!"14 Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they cried out exceedingly, "Crucify him!"14 And Pilate said to them, What evil then has he done? But they cried out the more urgently, Crucify him.
Wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.15 Pilate wanted to satisfy the people, so he freed Barabbas for them. But he had Jesus whipped and handed over to be crucified.15 Pilate, wishing to please the multitude, released Barabbas to them, and handed over Jesus, when he had flogged him, to be crucified.15 And Pilate, desirous of contenting the crowd, released to them Barabbas, and delivered up Jesus, when he had scourged him, that he might be crucified.
Jesus Is Mocked
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
The soldiers took Him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium), and they called together the whole Roman cohort.16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.16 The soldiers led Jesus into the courtyard of the palace and called together the whole troop.16 The soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they called together the whole cohort.16 And the soldiers led him away into the court which is called the praetorium, and they call together the whole band.
They dressed Him up in purple, and after twisting a crown of thorns, they put it on Him;17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,17 They dressed him in purple, twisted some thorns into a crown, and placed it on his head.17 They clothed him with purple, and weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on him.17 And they clothe him with purple, and bind round on him a crown of thorns which they had plaited.
and they began to acclaim Him, "Hail, King of the Jews!"18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!18 Then they began to greet him, "Long live the king of the Jews!"18 They began to salute him, "Hail, King of the Jews!"18 And they began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!
They kept beating His head with a reed, and spitting on Him, and kneeling and bowing before Him.19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.19 They kept hitting him on the head with a stick, spitting on him, and kneeling in front of him with false humility.19 They struck his head with a reed, and spat on him, and bowing their knees, did homage to him.19 And they struck his head with a reed, and spat on him, and, bending the knee, did him homage.
After they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they led Him out to crucify Him.20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.20 After the soldiers finished making fun of Jesus, they took off the purple cape and put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.20 When they had mocked him, they took the purple off of him, and put his own garments on him. They led him out to crucify him.20 And when they had mocked him, they took the purple off him, and put his own clothes on him; and they lead him out that they may crucify him.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
They pressed into service a passer-by coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and Rufus), to bear His cross.21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.21 A man named Simon from the city of Cyrene was coming [into Jerusalem] from his home in the country. He was the father of Alexander and Rufus. As he was about to pass by, the soldiers forced him to carry Jesus' cross.21 They compelled one passing by, coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them, that he might bear his cross.21 And they compel to go with them a certain passer-by, Simon, a Cyrenian, coming from the field, the father of Alexander and Rufus, that he might carry his cross.
The Crucifixion
Then they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull.22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.22 They took Jesus to Golgotha (which means "the place of the skull").22 They brought him to the place called Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, "The place of a skull."22 And they bring him to the place called Golgotha, which, being interpreted, is Place of a skull.
They tried to give Him wine mixed with myrrh; but He did not take it.23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.23 They tried to give him wine mixed with a drug called myrrh, but he wouldn't take it.23 They offered him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but he didn't take it.23 And they offered him wine to drink medicated with myrrh; but he did not take it.
And they crucified Him, and divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them to decide what each man should take.24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.24 Next they crucified him. Then they divided his clothes among themselves by throwing dice to see what each one would get.24 Crucifying him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots on them, what each should take.24 And having crucified him, they part his clothes amongst themselves, casting lots on them, what each one should take.
It was the third hour when they crucified Him.25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.25 It was nine in the morning when they crucified him.25 It was the third hour, and they crucified him.25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
The inscription of the charge against Him read, "THE KING OF THE JEWS."26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.26 There was a written notice of the accusation against him. It read, "The king of the Jews."26 The superscription of his accusation was written over him, "THE KING OF THE JEWS."26 And the superscription of what he was accused of was written up: The King of the Jews.
They crucified two robbers with Him, one on His right and one on His left.27 And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.27 They crucified two criminals with him, one on his right and the other on his left. 27 With him they crucified two robbers; one on his right hand, and one on his left.27 And with him they crucify two robbers, one on his right hand, and one on his left.
And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And He was numbered with transgressors."28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.28 28 The Scripture was fulfilled, which says, "He was numbered with transgressors."28 And the scripture was fulfilled which says, And he was reckoned with the lawless.
Those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Ha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,29 Those who passed by insulted him. They shook their heads and said, "What a joke! You were going to tear down God's temple and build it again in three days.29 Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Ha! You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days,29 And they that passed by reviled him, shaking their heads, and saying, Aha, thou that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days,
save Yourself, and come down from the cross!"30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross.30 Come down from the cross, and save yourself!"30 save yourself, and come down from the cross!"30 save thyself, and descend from the cross.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were mocking Him among themselves and saying, "He saved others; He cannot save Himself.31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.31 The chief priests and the scribes made fun of him among themselves in the same way. They said, "He saved others, but he can't save himself.31 Likewise, also the chief priests mocking among themselves with the scribes said, "He saved others. He can't save himself.31 In like manner the chief priests also, with the scribes, mocking with one another, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save.
"Let this Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!" Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him.32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.32 Let the Messiah, the king of Israel, come down from the cross now so that we may see and believe." Even those who were crucified with him were insulting him.32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe him." Those who were crucified with him insulted him.32 Let the Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and may believe. And they that were crucified with him reproached him.
 When the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour.33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.33 At noon darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.33 When the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.33 And when the sixth hour was come, there came darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour;
At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" which is translated, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?34 At three o'clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?" which means, "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?"34 At the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which is, being interpreted, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"34 and at the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
When some of the bystanders heard it, they began saying, "Behold, He is calling for Elijah."35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.35 When some of the people standing there heard him say that, they said, "Listen! He's calling Elijah."35 Some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, "Behold, he is calling Elijah."35 And some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calls for Elias.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, "Let us see whether Elijah will come to take Him down."36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.36 Someone ran and soaked a sponge in vinegar. Then he put it on a stick and offered Jesus a drink. The man said, "Let's see if Elijah comes to take him down."36 One ran, and filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying, "Let him be. Let's see whether Elijah comes to take him down."36 And one, running and filling a sponge with vinegar, fixed it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone, let us see if Elias comes to take him down.
And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last.37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.37 Then Jesus cried out in a loud voice and died.37 Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and gave up the spirit.37 And Jesus, having uttered a loud cry, expired.
And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.38 The curtain in the temple was split in two from top to bottom.38 The veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom.38 And the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom.
When the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!"39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.39 When the officer who stood facing Jesus saw how he gave up his spirit, he said, "Certainly, this man was the Son of God!"39 When the centurion, who stood by opposite him, saw that he cried out like this and breathed his last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!"39 And the centurion who stood by over against him, when he saw that he had expired having thus cried out, said, Truly this man was Son of God.
 There were also some women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the Less and Joses, and Salome.40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;40 Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary from Magdala, Mary (the mother of young James and Joseph), and Salome.40 There were also women watching from afar, among whom were both Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;40 And there were women also looking on from afar off, among whom were both Mary of Magdala, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;

When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and minister to Him; and there were many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.41 (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.41 They had followed him and supported him while he was in Galilee. Many other women who had come to Jerusalem with him were there too.41 who, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and served him; and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.41 who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him and ministered to him; and many others who came up with him to Jerusalem.
Jesus Is Buried
When evening had already come, because it was the preparation day, that is, the day before the Sabbath,42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,42 It was Friday evening, before the day of worship,42 When evening had now come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath,42 And when it was already evening, since it was the preparation, that is, the day before a sabbath,
Joseph of Arimathea came, a prominent member of the Council, who himself was waiting for the kingdom of God; and he gathered up courage and went in before Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.43 when Joseph arrived. He was from the city of Arimathea and was an important member of the Jewish council. He, too, was waiting for the kingdom of God. Joseph boldly went to Pilate's quarters to ask for the body of Jesus.43 Joseph of Arimathaea, a prominent council member who also himself was looking for the Kingdom of God, came. He boldly went in to Pilate, and asked for Jesus' body.43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable councillor, who also himself was awaiting the kingdom of God, coming, emboldened himself and went in to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus.
Pilate wondered if He was dead by this time, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was already dead.44 And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.44 Pilate wondered if Jesus had already died. So he summoned the officer to ask him if Jesus was, in fact, dead.44 Pilate marveled if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had been dead long.44 And Pilate wondered if he were already dead; and having called to him the centurion, he inquired of him if he had long died.
And ascertaining this from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.45 When the officer had assured him that Jesus was dead, Pilate let Joseph have the corpse.45 When he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.45 And when he knew from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.

Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth and laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.46 Joseph had purchased some linen cloth. He took the body down from the cross and wrapped it in the cloth. Then he laid the body in a tomb, which had been cut out of rock, and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.46 He bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb which had been cut out of a rock. He rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.46 And having bought fine linen, and having taken him down, he swathed him in the fine linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was cut out of rock, and rolled a stone to the door of the sepulchre.
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were looking on to see where He was laid.47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.47 Mary from Magdala and Mary (the mother of Joses) watched where Jesus was laid.47 Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Joses, saw where he was laid.47 And Mary of Magdala and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was put.
