Abram and Lot | ||||
NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
1 So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him. | 1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south. | 1 Abram left Egypt with his wife and everything he had and went to the Negev. Lot was with him. | 1 Abram went up out of Egypt: he, his wife, all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South. | 1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, towards the south. | 2 Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver and in gold. | 2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. | 2 Abram was very rich because he had livestock, silver, and gold. | 2 Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. | 2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. | 3 He went on his journeys from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, | 3 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai; | 3 He traveled from place to place. He went from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the area between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been originally, | 3 He went on his journeys from the South even to Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, | 3 And he went on his journeys from the south as far as Bethel; as far as the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai; | 4 to the place of the altar which he had made there formerly; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD. | 4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had make there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD. | 4 where he had first made an altar. There Abram worshiped the LORD. | 4 to the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first. There Abram called on the name of Yahweh. | 4 to the place of the altar that he had made there at the first. And there Abram called on the name of Jehovah. | 5 Now Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. | 5 And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. | 5 Lot, who had been traveling with Abram, also had his own sheep, cattle, and tents. | 5 Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. | 5 And Lot also who went with Abram had flocks, and herds, and tents. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
6 And the land could not sustain them while dwelling together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together. | 6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together. | 6 There wasn't enough pastureland for both of them. They had so many possessions that they were unable to remain together. | 6 The land was not able to bear them, that they might live together: for their substance was great, so that they could not live together. | 6 And the land could not support them, that they might dwell together, for their property was great; and they could not dwell together. | 7 And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. Now the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land. | 7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land. | 7 Quarrels broke out between Abram's herders and Lot's herders. (Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in that area.) | 7 There was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite lived in the land at that time. | 7 And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land. | 8 So Abram said to Lot, "Please let there be no strife between you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers. | 8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren. | 8 Abram said to Lot, "Please, let's not have any more quarrels between us or between our herders. After all, we're relatives. | 8 Abram said to Lot, "Please, let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are relatives. | 8 And Abram said to Lot, I pray thee let there be no contention between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen, for we are brethren. | 9 "Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me; if to the left, then I will go to the right; or if to the right, then I will go to the left." | 9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left. | 9 Isn't all this land yours also? Let's separate. If you go to the left, I'll go to the right, and if you go to the right, I'll go to the left." | 9 Isn't the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If you go to the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if you go to the right hand, then I will go to the left." | 9 Is not the whole land before thee? Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if to the left, then I will take the right; and if to the right, then I will take the left. | 10 Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the valley of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere-- this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-- like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go to Zoar. | 10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. | 10 Then Lot looked in the direction of Zoar as far as he could see. He saw that the whole Jordan Plain was well-watered like the LORD's garden or like Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) | 10 Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well-watered everywhere, before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar. | 10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of the Jordan that it was thoroughly watered, before Jehovah had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah; as the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt, as one goes to Zoar. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
11 So Lot chose for himself all the valley of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. Thus they separated from each other. | 11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. | 11 Lot chose the whole Jordan Plain for himself. He moved toward the east. They each went their own way. | 11 So Lot chose the Plain of the Jordan for himself. Lot traveled east, and they separated themselves the one from the other. | 11 And Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan; and Lot went toward the east. And they separated the one from the other: | 12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled in the cities of the valley, and moved his tents as far as Sodom. | 12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. | 12 Abram lived in Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain, moving his tents as far as Sodom. | 12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom. | 12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan; and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain, and pitched tents as far as Sodom. | 13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked exceedingly and sinners against the LORD. | 13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly. | 13 (The people who lived in Sodom were very wicked. They committed terrible sins against the LORD.) | 13 Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinners against Yahweh. | 13 And the people of Sodom were wicked, and great sinners before Jehovah. | 14 The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, "Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; | 14 And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: | 14 After Lot left, the LORD said to Abram, "Look north, south, east, and west of where you are. | 14 Yahweh said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him, "Now, lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, | 14 And Jehovah said to Abram, after that Lot had separated himself from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward; | 15 for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever. | 15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. | 15 I will give all the land you see to you and to your descendants for an indefinite period of time. | 15 for all the land which you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring forever. | 15 for all the land that thou seest will I give to thee, and to thy seed for ever. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
16 "I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered. | 16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. | 16 I will also give you as many descendants as the dust of the earth. If anyone could count the dust of the earth, then he could also count your descendants. | 16 I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then your seed may also be numbered. | 16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth, so that if any one can number the dust of the earth, thy seed also will be numbered. | 17 "Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you." | 17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee. | 17 Go! Walk back and forth across the entire land because I will give it to you." | 17 Arise, walk through the land in its length and in its breadth; for I will give it to you." | 17 Arise, walk through the land according to the length of it and according to the breadth of it; for I will give it to thee. | 18 Then Abram moved his tent and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built an altar to the LORD. | 18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD. | 18 So Abram moved his tents and went to live by the oak trees belonging to Mamre at Hebron. There he built an altar for the LORD. | 18 Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to Yahweh. | 18 Then Abram moved his tents, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron. And he built there an altar to Jehovah. |
