Abram Promised a Son
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great."1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.1 Later the LORD spoke his word to Abram in a vision. He said, "Abram, don't be afraid. I am your shield. Your reward will be very great." 1 After these things the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Don't be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."1 After these things the word of Jehovah came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram; I am thy shield, thy exceeding great reward.
Abram said, "O Lord GOD, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?"2 And Abram said, LORD God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?2 Abram asked, "Almighty LORD, what will you give me? Since I'm going to die without children, Eliezer of Damascus will inherit my household.2 Abram said, "Lord Yahweh, what will you give me, since I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?"2 And Abram said, Lord Jehovah, what wilt thou give me? seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus.
And Abram said, "Since You have given no offspring to me, one born in my house is my heir."3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.3 You have given me no children, so this member of my household will be my heir."3 Abram said, "Behold, to me you have given no seed: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir."3 And Abram said, Lo, to me thou hast given no seed, and behold, a son of my house will be mine heir.
Then behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "This man will not be your heir; but one who will come forth from your own body, he shall be your heir."4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.4 Suddenly, the LORD spoke his word to Abram again. He said, "This man will not be your heir. Your own son will be your heir."4 Behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, "This man will not be your heir, but he who will come forth out of your own body will be your heir."4 And behold, the word of Jehovah came to him, saying, This shall not be thine heir, but he that will come forth out of thy body shall be thine heir.
And He took him outside and said, "Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be."5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.5 He took Abram outside and said, "Now look up at the sky and count the stars, if you are able to count them." He also said to him, "That's how many descendants you will have!"5 Yahweh brought him outside, and said, "Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them." He said to Abram, "So shall your seed be."5 And he led him out, and said, Look now toward the heavens, and number the stars, if thou be able to number them. And he said to him, So shall thy seed be!

Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.6 Then Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD regarded that faith to be his approval of Abram.6 He believed in Yahweh; and he reckoned it to him for righteousness.6 And he believed Jehovah; and he reckoned it to him as righteousness.
And He said to him, "I am the LORD who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess it."7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.7 Then the LORD said to him, "I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land so that you will take possession of it."7 He said to him, "I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it."7 And he said to him, I am Jehovah who brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give thee this land to possess it.
He said, "O Lord GOD, how may I know that I will possess it?"8 And he said, LORD God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?8 Abram asked, "Almighty LORD, how can I be certain that I will take possession of it?"8 He said, "Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?"8 And he said, Lord Jehovah, how shall I know that I shall possess it?
So He said to him, "Bring Me a three year old heifer, and a three year old female goat, and a three year old ram, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon."9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.9 He answered Abram, "Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a mourning dove, and a pigeon."9 He said to him, "Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon."9 And he said to him, Take me a heifer of three years old, and a she-goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtle-dove, and a young pigeon.
Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, and laid each half opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds.10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.10 So Abram brought all these animals to him. He cut each of them in half and laid each half opposite the other. However, he did not cut the birds in half.10 He brought him all of these, and divided them in the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; but he didn't divide the birds.10 And he took all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid the half of each opposite its fellow; but the birds he did not divide.

The birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcasses, Abram drove them away.11 When birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, Abram drove them away.11 The birds of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.11 And the birds of prey came down on the carcases; and Abram scared them away.
Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, terror and great darkness fell upon him.12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.12 As the sun was just about to set, a deep sleep-a dreadful, deep darkness-came over Abram.12 When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. Now terror and great darkness fell on him.12 And as the sun was just going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, a horror, a great darkness, fell upon him.
God said to Abram, "Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, where they will be enslaved and oppressed four hundred years.13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;13 God said to Abram, "You can know for sure that your descendants will live in a land that is not their own, where they will be slaves, and they will be oppressed for 400 years.13 He said to Abram, "Know for sure that your seed will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.13 And he said to Abram, Know assuredly that thy seed will be a sojourner in a land that is not theirs, and they shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years.
"But I will also judge the nation whom they will serve, and afterward they will come out with many possessions.14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.14 But I will punish the nation they serve, and after that they will come out with many possessions.14 I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve. Afterward they will come out with great wealth,14 But also that nation which they shall serve I will judge; and afterwards they shall come out with great property.
"As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age.15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.15 But you will die in peace and be buried at a very old age.15 but you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried in a good old age.15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

"Then in the fourth generation they will return here, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete."16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.16 In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, because the sin of the Amorites will not have run its course until then."16 In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full."16 And in the fourth generation they shall come hither again; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
It came about when the sun had set, that it was very dark, and behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a flaming torch which passed between these pieces.17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.17 The sun had gone down, and it was dark. Suddenly a smoking oven and a flaming torch passed between the animal pieces.17 It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.17 And it came to pass when the sun had gone down, and it was dark, that behold, there was a smoking furnace, and a flame of fire which passed between those pieces.
On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants I have given this land, From the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates:18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:18 At that time the LORD made a promise to Abram.
