Abraham and the Covenant of Circumcision | ||||
NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
1 Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am God Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless. | 1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. | 1 When Abram was 99 years old, the LORD appeared to him. He said to Abram, "I am God Almighty. Live in my presence with integrity. | 1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, Yahweh appeared to Abram, and said to him, "I am God Almighty. Walk before me, and be blameless. | 1 And Abram was ninety-nine years old, when Jehovah appeared to Abram, and said to him, I am the Almighty God: walk before my face, and be perfect. | 2 "I will establish My covenant between Me and you, And I will multiply you exceedingly." | 2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. | 2 I will give you my promise, and I will give you very many descendants." | 2 I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly." | 2 And I will set my covenant between me and thee, and will very greatly multiply thee. | 3 Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying, | 3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, | 3 Immediately, Abram bowed with his face touching the ground, and again God spoke to him, | 3 Abram fell on his face. God talked with him, saying, | 3 And Abram fell on his face; and God talked with him, saying, | 4 "As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, And you will be the father of a multitude of nations. | 4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. | 4 "My promise is still with you. You will become the father of many nations. | 4 "As for me, behold, my covenant is with you. You will be the father of a multitude of nations. | 4 It is I: behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of a multitude of nations. | 5 "No longer shall your name be called Abram, But your name shall be Abraham; For I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. | 5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. | 5 So your name will no longer be Abram [Exalted Father], but Abraham [Father of Many] because I have made you a father of many nations. | 5 Neither will your name any more be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. | 5 And thy name shall no more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of a multitude of nations have I made thee. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
6 "I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you. | 6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. | 6 I will give you many descendants. Many nations and kings will come from you. | 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you. Kings will come out of you. | 6 And I will make thee exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. | 7 "I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. | 7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. | 7 I will make my promise to you and your descendants for generations to come as an everlasting promise. I will be your God and the God of your descendants. | 7 I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you and to your seed after you. | 7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee, and thy seed after thee in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to thee, and to thy seed after thee. | 8 "I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God." | 8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. | 8 I am also giving this land where you are living-all of Canaan-to you and your descendants as your permanent possession. And I will be your God." | 8 I will give to you, and to your seed after you, the land where you are traveling, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession. I will be their God." | 8 And I give to thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land of thy sojourning, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be a God to them. | 9 God said further to Abraham, "Now as for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. | 9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. | 9 God also said to Abraham, "You and your descendants in generations to come are to be faithful to my promise. | 9 God said to Abraham, "As for you, you will keep my covenant, you and your seed after you throughout their generations. | 9 And God said to Abraham, And as for thee, thou shalt keep my covenant, thou and thy seed after thee in their generations. | 10 "This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: every male among you shall be circumcised. | 10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. | 10 This is how you are to be faithful to my promise: Every male among you is to be circumcised. | 10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your seed after you. Every male among you shall be circumcised. | 10 This is my covenant which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee that every male among you be circumcised. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
11 "And you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between Me and you. | 11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you. | 11 All of you must be circumcised. That will be the sign of the promise from me to you. | 11 You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin. It will be a token of the covenant between me and you. | 11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and that shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. | 12 "And every male among you who is eight days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations, a servant who is born in the house or who is bought with money from any foreigner, who is not of your descendants. | 12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed. | 12 For generations to come every male child who is eight days old must be circumcised, whether he is born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner who's not related to you. | 12 He who is eight days old will be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he who is born in the house, or bought with money from any foreigner who is not of your seed. | 12 And at eight days old shall every male in your generations be circumcised among you he who is born in the house, and he who is bought with money, any stranger who is not of thy seed. | 13 "A servant who is born in your house or who is bought with your money shall surely be circumcised; thus shall My covenant be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. | 13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. | 13 Every male born in your household or bought with your money is to be circumcised without exception. So my promise will be a sign on your flesh, an everlasting promise. | 13 He who is born in your house, and he who is bought with your money, must be circumcised. My covenant will be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. | 13 He who is born in thy house, and he who is bought with thy money, must be circumcised; and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. | 14 "But an uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant." | 14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant. | 14 Any uncircumcised male must be excluded from his people because he has rejected my promise." | 14 The uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his people. He has broken my covenant." | 14 And the uncircumcised male who hath not been circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his peoples: he hath broken my covenant. | 15 Then God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. | 15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. | 15 God said to Abraham, "Don't call your wife by the name Sarai anymore. Instead, her name is Sarah [Princess]. | 15 God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but her name will be Sarah. | 15 And God said to Abraham, As to Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
16 "I will bless her, and indeed I will give you a son by her. Then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her." | 16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. | 16 I will bless her, and I will also give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she will become [a mother of] nations, and kings will come from her." | 16 I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her." | 16 And I will bless her, and I will give thee a son also of her; and I will bless her, and she shall become nations: kings of peoples shall be of her. | 17 Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, "Will a child be born to a man one hundred years old? And will Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?" | 17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? | 17 Immediately, Abraham bowed with his face touching the ground. He laughed as he thought to himself, "Can a son be born to a hundred-year-old man? Can Sarah, a ninety-year-old woman, have a child?" | 17 Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, "Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?" | 17 And Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born to him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear? | 18 And Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before You!" | 18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! | 18 Then Abraham said to God, "Why not let Ishmael be my heir?" | 18 Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before you!" | 18 And Abraham said to God, Oh that Ishmael might live before thee! | 19 But God said, "No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. | 19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. | 19 God replied, "No! Your wife Sarah will give you a son, and you will name him Isaac [He Laughs]. I will make an everlasting promise to him and his descendants. | 19 God said, "No, but Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son. You shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him. | 19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall indeed bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name Isaac; and I will establish my covenant with him, for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him. | 20 "As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him, and will make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. | 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation. | 20 I have heard your request about Ishmael. Yes, I will bless him, make him fertile, and increase the number of his descendants. He will be the father of 12 princes, and I will make him a great nation. | 20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. | 20 And for Ishmael I have heard thee: behold, I will bless him, and will make him fruitful, and will very greatly multiply him; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
21 "But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this season next year." | 21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year. | 21 But I will make my promise to Isaac. Sarah will give birth to him at this time next year." | 21 But my covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year." | 21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to thee at this appointed time in the next year. | 22 When He finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham. | 22 And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham. | 22 When God finished speaking with Abraham, he left him. | 22 When he finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham. | 22 And he left off talking with him; and God went up from Abraham. | 23 Then Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all the servants who were born in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's household, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the very same day, as God had said to him. | 23 And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him. | 23 So Abraham took his son Ishmael, everyone born in his household, and everyone bought with money-every male in his household-and circumcised them that day, as God had told him. | 23 Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money; every male among the men of Abraham's house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the same day, as God had said to him. | 23 And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money every male among the people of Abraham's house and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on that same day, as God had said to him. | 24 Now Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. | 24 And Abraham was ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. | 24 Abraham was 99 years old when he was circumcised. | 24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. | 24 And Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. | 25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. | 25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. | 25 His son Ishmael was 13 years old when he was circumcised. | 25 Ishmael, his son, was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. | 25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
26 In the very same day Abraham was circumcised, and Ishmael his son. | 26 In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son. | 26 That same day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised. | 26 In the same day both Abraham and Ishmael, his son, were circumcised. | 26 In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son; | 27 All the men of his household, who were born in the house or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him. | 27 And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him. | 27 All the men of his household, whether born in the household or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him. | 27 All the men of his house, those born in the house, and those bought with money of a foreigner, were circumcised with him. | 27 and all the men of his house, born in his house, or bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him. |
