One Sacrifice of Christ Is Sufficient

1 For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near.1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.1 Moses' Teachings with their yearly cycle of sacrifices are only a shadow of the good things in the future. They aren't an exact likeness of those things. They can never make those who worship perfect.1 For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near.1 For the law, having a shadow of the coming good things, not the image itself of the things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually yearly, perfect those who approach.
2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins?2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.2 If these sacrifices could have made the worshipers perfect, the sacrifices would have stopped long ago. Those who worship would have been cleansed once and for all. Their consciences would have been free from sin.2 Or else wouldn't they have ceased to be offered, because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins?2 Since, would they not indeed have ceased being offered, on account of the worshippers once purged having no longer any conscience of sins?
3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year.3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.3 Instead, this yearly cycle of sacrifices reminded people of their sins.3 But in those sacrifices there is a yearly reminder of sins.3 But in these there is a calling to mind of sins yearly.
4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.4 (The blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sins.)4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.4 For blood of bulls and goats is incapable of taking away sins.
5 Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME;5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:5 For this reason, when Christ came into the world, he said, " 'You did not want sacrifices and offerings, but you prepared a body for me.5 Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, "Sacrifice and offering you didn't desire, but you prepared a body for me;5 Wherefore coming into the world he says, Sacrifice and offering thou willedst not; but thou hast prepared me a body.

6 IN WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE TAKEN NO PLEASURE.6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.6 You did not approve of burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin.'6 You had no pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin.6 Thou tookest no pleasure in burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin.
7 "THEN I SAID, 'BEHOLD, I HAVE COME (IN THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME) TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.'"7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.7 Then I said, 'I have come! (It is written about me in the scroll of the book.) I have come to do what you want, my God.'"7 Then I said, 'Behold, I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of me) to do your will, O God.'"7 Then I said, Lo, I come (in the roll of the book it is written of me) to do, O God, thy will.
8 After saying above, "SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, NOR HAVE YOU TAKEN PLEASURE in them" (which are offered according to the Law),8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;8 In this passage Christ first said, "You did not want sacrifices, offerings, burnt offerings, and sacrifices for sin. You did not approve of them." (These are the sacrifices that Moses' Teachings require people to offer.)8 Previously saying, "Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn't desire, neither had pleasure in them" (those which are offered according to the law),8 Above, saying Sacrifices and offerings and burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin thou willedst not, neither tookest pleasure in (which are offered according to the law);
9 then He said, "BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL." He takes away the first in order to establish the second.9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.9 Then Christ says, "I have come to do what you want." He did away with sacrifices in order to establish the obedience that God wants.9 then he has said, "Behold, I have come to do your will." He takes away the first, that he may establish the second,9 then he said, Lo, I come to do thy will. He takes away the first that he may establish the second;
10 By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.10 We have been set apart as holy because Jesus Christ did what God wanted him to do by sacrificing his body once and for all.10 by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.10 by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11 Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins;11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:11 Every day each priest performed his religious duty. He offered the same type of sacrifice again and again. Yet, these sacrifices could never take away sins.11 Every priest indeed stands day by day serving and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins,11 And every priest stands daily ministering, and offering often the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12 but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD,12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;12 However, this chief priest made one sacrifice for sins, and this sacrifice lasts forever. Then he received the highest position in heaven.12 but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God;12 But he, having offered one sacrifice for sins, sat down in perpetuity at the right hand of God,
13 waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET.13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.13 Since that time, he has been waiting for his enemies to be made his footstool.13 from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet.13 waiting from henceforth until his enemies be set for the footstool of his feet.
14 For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.14 With one sacrifice he accomplished the work of setting them apart for God forever.14 For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.14 For by one offering he has perfected in perpetuity the sanctified.
15 And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying,15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,15 The Holy Spirit tells us the same thing:15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,15 And the Holy Spirit also bears us witness of it; for after what was said:

16 "THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM," He then says,16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;16 "This is the promise that I will make to them after those days, says the Lord: 'I will put my teachings in their hearts and write them in their minds.' "16 "This is the covenant that I will make with them: 'After those days,' says the Lord, 'I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;'" then he says,16 This is the covenant which I will establish towards them after those days, saith the Lord: Giving my laws into their hearts, I will write them also in their understandings;
17 "AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE."17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.17 Then he adds, "I will no longer hold their sins and their disobedience against them."17 "I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more."17 and their sins and their lawlessnesses I will never remember any more.
18 Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin.18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.18 When sins are forgiven, there is no longer any need to sacrifice for sins.18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.18 But where there is remission of these, there is no longer a sacrifice for sin.
A New and Living Way
19 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,19 Brothers and sisters, because of the blood of Jesus we can now confidently go into the holy place.19 Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus,19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness for entering into the holy of holies by the blood of Jesus,

22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.22 We have been sprinkled [with his blood] to free us from a guilty conscience, and our bodies have been washed with clean water. 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:24 We must also consider how to encourage each other to show love and to do good things.24 Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works,24 and let us consider one another for provoking to love and good works;
25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.25 We should not stop gathering together with other believers, as some of you are doing. Christ or Judgment

26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,26 If we go on sinning after we have learned the truth, no sacrifice can take away our sins.26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins,26 For where we sin wilfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains any sacrifice for sins,
27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES.27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.27 All that is left is a terrifying wait for judgment and a raging fire that will consume God's enemies.27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries.27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and heat of fire about to devour the adversaries.
28 Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:28 If two or three witnesses accused someone of rejecting Moses' Teachings, that person was shown no mercy as he was executed.28 A man who disregards Moses' law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses.28 Any one that has disregarded Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses:
29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?29 What do you think a person who shows no respect for the Son of God deserves? That person looks at the blood of the promise (the blood that made him holy) as no different from other people's blood, and he insults the Spirit that God gave us out of his kindness. He deserves a much worse punishment. 29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will he be judged worthy of, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?29 of how much worse punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and esteemed the blood of the covenant, whereby he has been sanctified, common, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY." And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE."30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.30 We know the God who said, "I alone have the right to take revenge. I will pay back." God also said, "The Lord will judge his people."30 For we know him who said, "Vengeance belongs to me," says the Lord, "I will repay." Again, "The Lord will judge his people."30 For we know him that said, To me belongs vengeance; I will recompense, saith the Lord: and again, The Lord shall judge his people.

33 partly by being made a public spectacle through reproaches and tribulations, and partly by becoming sharers with those who were so treated.33 Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.33 At times you were publicly insulted and mistreated. At times you associated with people who were treated this way.33 partly, being exposed to both reproaches and oppressions; and partly, becoming partakers with those who were treated so.33 on the one hand, when ye were made a spectacle both in reproaches and afflictions; and on the other, when ye became partakers with those who were passing through them.
34 For you showed sympathy to the prisoners and accepted joyfully the seizure of your property, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and a lasting one.34 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.34 You suffered with prisoners. You were cheerful even though your possessions were stolen, since you know that you have a better and more permanent possession. 34 For you both had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in the heavens.34 For ye both sympathised with prisoners and accepted with joy the plunder of your goods, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better substance, and an abiding one.
35 Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.35 So don't lose your confidence. It will bring you a great reward.35 Therefore don't throw away your boldness, which has a great reward.35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which has great recompense.

38 BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM.38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.38 The person who has God's approval will live by faith. But if he turns back, I will not be pleased with him."38 But the righteous will live by faith. If he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him."38 But the just shall live by faith; and, if he draw back, my soul does not take pleasure in him.
39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.39 We don't belong with those who turn back and are destroyed. Instead, we belong with those who have faith and are saved.39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the saving of the soul.39 But we are not drawers back to perdition, but of faith to saving the soul.
