1 Now even the first covenant had regulations of divine worship and the earthly sanctuary. | 1 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. | 1 The first promise had rules for the priests' service. Accordingly both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience, | 9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; | 9 The first part of the tent is an example for the present time. The gifts and sacrifices that were brought there could not give the worshiper a clear conscience. | 9 which is a symbol of the present age, where gifts and sacrifices are offered that are incapable, concerning the conscience, of making the worshipper perfect; | 9 the which is an image for the present time, according to which both gifts and sacrifices, unable to perfect as to conscience him that worshipped, are offered, | 10 since they relate only to food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until a time of reformation. | 10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. | 10 These gifts and sacrifices were meant to be food, drink, and items used in various purification ceremonies.
