Things to Avoid
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members?1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Aren't they caused by the selfish desires that fight to control you?1 Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don't they come from your pleasures that war in your members?1 Whence come wars and whence fightings among you? Is it not thence, from your pleasures, which war in your members?
You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.2 You want what you don't have, so you commit murder. You're determined to have things, but you can't get what you want. You quarrel and fight. You don't have the things you want, because you don't pray for them.2 You lust, and don't have. You kill, covet, and can't obtain. You fight and make war. You don't have, because you don't ask.2 Ye lust and have not: ye kill and are full of envy, and cannot obtain; ye fight and war; ye have not because ye ask not.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.3 When you pray for things, you don't get them because you want them for the wrong reason-for your own pleasure.3 You ask, and don't receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.3 Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask evilly, that ye may consume it in your pleasures.
You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.4 You unfaithful people! Don't you know that love for this [evil] world is hatred toward God? Whoever wants to be a friend of this world is an enemy of God.4 You adulterers and adulteresses, don't you know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.4 Adulteresses, know ye not that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore is minded to be the friend of the world is constituted enemy of God.
Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: "He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us"?5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?5 Do you think this passage means nothing? It says, "The Spirit that lives in us wants us to be his own."5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously"?5 Think ye that the scripture speaks in vain? Does the Spirit which has taken his abode in us desire enviously?

But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE."6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.6 But God shows us even more kindness. Scripture says, "God opposes arrogant people, but he is kind to humble people." 6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."6 But he gives more grace. Wherefore he says, God sets himself against the proud, but gives grace to the lowly.
Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.7 So place yourselves under God's authority. Resist the devil, and he will run away from you.7 Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.7 Subject yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.8 Come close to God, and he will come close to you. Clean up your lives, you sinners, and clear your minds, you doubters.8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.
Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom.9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.9 Be miserable, mourn, and cry. Turn your laughter into mourning and your joy into gloom.9 Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom.9 Be wretched, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.10 Humble yourselves in the Lord's presence. Then he will give you a high position.10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he shall exalt you.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.11 Brothers and sisters, stop slandering each other. Those who slander and judge other believers slander and judge God's teachings. If you judge God's teachings, you are no longer following them. Instead, you are judging them.11 Don't speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.11 Speak not against one another, brethren. He that speaks against his brother, or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if thou judgest the law, thou art not doer of the law, but judge.
There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor?12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?12 There is only one teacher and judge. He is able to save or destroy you. So who are you to judge your neighbor?12 Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?12 One is the lawgiver and judge, who is able to save and to destroy: but who art thou who judgest thy neighbour?
Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit."13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:13 Pay attention to this! You're saying, "Today or tomorrow we will go into some city, stay there a year, conduct business, and make money."13 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow let's go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit."13 Go to now, ye who say, To-day or to-morrow will we go into such a city and spend a year there, and traffic and make gain,
Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.14 You don't know what will happen tomorrow. What is life? You are a mist that is seen for a moment and then disappears.14 Whereas you don't know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.14 ye who do not know what will be on the morrow, (for what is your life? It is even a vapour, appearing for a little while, and then disappearing,)
Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that."15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.15 Instead, you should say, "If the Lord wants us to, we will live and carry out our plans."15 For you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that."15 instead of your saying, If the Lord should so will and we should live, we will also do this or that.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil.16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.16 However, you brag because you're arrogant. All such bragging is evil.16 But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.16 But now ye glory in your vauntings: all such glorying is evil.
Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.17 Whoever knows what is right but doesn't do it is sinning.17 To him therefore who knows to do good, and doesn't do it, to him it is sin.17 To him therefore who knows how to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
