Job Says He Has Become a Byword
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "My spirit is broken, my days are extinguished, The grave is ready for me.1 My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.1 "My spirit is broken. My days have been snuffed out. The cemetery [is waiting] for me.1 "My spirit is consumed. My days are extinct, And the grave is ready for me.1 My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are mine.
 "Surely mockers are with me, And my eye gazes on their provocation.2 Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?2 Certainly, mockers are around me. My eyes are focused on their opposition.2 Surely there are mockers with me. My eye dwells on their provocation.2 Are there not mockers around me? and doth not mine eye abide in their provocation?
 "Lay down, now, a pledge for me with Yourself; Who is there that will be my guarantor?3 Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?3 Please guarantee my bail yourself. Who else will guarantee it with a handshake?3 "Now give a pledge, be collateral for me with yourself. Who is there who will strike hands with me?3 Lay down now a pledge, be thou surety for me with thyself: who is he that striketh hands with me?
 "For You have kept their heart from understanding, Therefore You will not exalt them.4 For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.4 You have closed their minds so that they cannot understand. That is why you will not honor them. 4 For you have hidden their heart from understanding, Therefore you shall not exalt them.4 For thou hast hidden their heart from understanding; therefore thou wilt not exalt them.
 "He who informs against friends for a share of the spoil, The eyes of his children also will languish.5 He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.5 (Whoever turns in friends to get their property should have his children's eyesight fail.)5 He who denounces his friends for a prey, Even the eyes of his children shall fail.5 He that betrayeth friends for a prey even the eyes of his children shall fail.

 "But He has made me a byword of the people, And I am one at whom men spit.6 He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.6 "Now he has made me a laughingstock for many people. Now they spit in my face.6 "But he has made me a byword of the people. They spit in my face.6 And he hath made me a proverb of the peoples; and I am become one to be spit on in the face.
 "My eye has also grown dim because of grief, And all my members are as a shadow.7 Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.7 Now my eyes are blurred from grief. Now all my limbs are like a shadow.7 My eye also is dim by reason of sorrow. All my members are as a shadow.7 And mine eye is dim by reason of grief, and all my members are as a shadow.
 "The upright will be appalled at this, And the innocent will stir up himself against the godless.8 Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.8 Decent people are shocked by this, and it stirs up the innocent against godless people.8 Upright men shall be astonished at this. The innocent shall stir up himself against the godless.8 Upright men shall be astonished at this, and the innocent shall be stirred up against the ungodly;
 "Nevertheless the righteous will hold to his way, And he who has clean hands will grow stronger and stronger.9 The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.9 Yet, the righteous person clings to his way, and the one with clean hands grows stronger.9 Yet shall the righteous hold on his way. He who has clean hands shall grow stronger and stronger.9 But the righteous shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall increase in strength.
 "But come again all of you now, For I do not find a wise man among you.10 But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.10 "But now, all of you, come and try again! I won't find one wise man among you.10 But as for you all, come on now again; I shall not find a wise man among you.10 But as for you all, pray come on again; and I shall not find one wise man among you.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "My days are past, my plans are torn apart, Even the wishes of my heart.11 My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.11 My days are passing by. My plans are broken. My dreams [are shattered].11 My days are past, my plans are broken off, as are the thoughts of my heart.11 My days are past, my purposes are broken off, the cherished thoughts of my heart.
 "They make night into day, saying, 'The light is near,' in the presence of darkness.12 They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.12 You say that night is day. Light has nearly become darkness.12 They change the night into day, saying 'The light is near' in the presence of darkness.12 They change the night into day; the light they imagine near in presence of the darkness.
 "If I look for Sheol as my home, I make my bed in the darkness;13 If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.13 If I look for the grave as my home and make my bed in the darkness,13 If I look for Sheol as my house, if I have spread my couch in the darkness,13 If I wait, Sheol is my house; I spread my bed in the darkness:
 If I call to the pit, 'You are my father'; To the worm, 'my mother and my sister';14 I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister.14 if I say to the pit, 'You are my father,' and to the worm, 'You are my mother and sister,'14 If I have said to corruption, 'You are my father;' to the worm, 'My mother,' and 'my sister;'14 I cry to the grave, Thou art my father! to the worm, My mother, and my sister!
 Where now is my hope? And who regards my hope?15 And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?15 then where is my hope? Can you see any hope left in me?15 where then is my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?15 And where is then my hope? yea, my hope, who shall see it?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "Will it go down with me to Sheol? Shall we together go down into the dust?"16 They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.16 Will hope go down with me to the gates of the grave? Will my hope rest with me in the dust?" Why Do You Think You Are So Great, Job?16 Shall it go down with me to the gates of Sheol, or descend together into the dust?"16 It shall go down to the bars of Sheol, when our rest shall be together in the dust.
