Job Says He Longs for God
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Then Job replied,1 Then Job answered and said,1 Then Job replied [to his friends],1 Then Job answered,1 And Job answered and said,
2 "Even today my complaint is rebellion; His hand is heavy despite my groaning.2 Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.2 "My complaint is bitter again today. I try hard to control my sighing.2 "Even today my complaint is rebellious. His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.2 Even to-day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.
3 "Oh that I knew where I might find Him, That I might come to His seat!3 Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!3 "If only I knew where I could find God! I would go where he lives.3 Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat!3 Oh that I knew where I might find him, that I might come to his seat!
4 "I would present my case before Him And fill my mouth with arguments.4 I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.4 I would present [my] case to him. I would have a mouthful of arguments.4 I would set my cause in order before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.4 I would order the cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments;
5 "I would learn the words which He would answer, And perceive what He would say to me.5 I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.5 I want to know the words he would use to answer me. I want to understand the things he would say to me.5 I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would tell me.5 I would know the words he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 "Would He contend with me by the greatness of His power? No, surely He would pay attention to me.6 Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.6 Would he sue me and hide behind great legal maneuvers? No, he certainly would press charges against me.6 Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No, but he would listen to me.6 Would he plead against me with his great power? Nay; but he would give heed unto me.
7 "There the upright would reason with Him; And I would be delivered forever from my Judge.7 There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.7 Then decent people could argue with him, and I would escape my judgment forever.7 There the upright might reason with him, so I should be delivered forever from my judge.7 There would an upright man reason with him; and I should be delivered for ever from my judge.
8 "Behold, I go forward but He is not there, And backward, but I cannot perceive Him;8 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:8 However, if I go east, he isn't there. If I go west, I can't find him.8 "If I go east, he is not there; if west, I can't find him;8 Lo, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I do not perceive him;
9 When He acts on the left, I cannot behold Him; He turns on the right, I cannot see Him.9 On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:9 If I go northward, where he is at work, I can't observe him. If I turn southward, I can't see him.9 He works to the north, but I can't see him. He turns south, but I can't catch a glimpse of him.9 On the left hand, where he doth work, but I behold him not; he hideth himself on the right hand, and I see him not.
10 "But He knows the way I take; When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.10 [I can't find him] because he knows the road I take. When he tests me, I'll come out as pure as gold.10 But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I shall come forth like gold.10 But he knoweth the way that I take; he trieth me, I shall come forth as gold.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 "My foot has held fast to His path; I have kept His way and not turned aside.11 My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.11 I have followed his footsteps closely. I have stayed on his path and did not turn from it.11 My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned aside.11 My foot hath held to his steps; his way have I kept, and not turned aside.
12 "I have not departed from the command of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.12 I have not left his commands behind. I have treasured his words in my heart.12 I haven't gone back from the commandment of his lips. I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have laid up the words of his mouth more than the purpose of my own heart.
13 "But He is unique and who can turn Him? And what His soul desires, that He does.13 But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.13 "But God is one of a kind. Who can make him change his mind? He does whatever he wants!13 But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? What his soul desires, even that he does.13 But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? And what his soul desireth, that will he do.
14 "For He performs what is appointed for me, And many such decrees are with Him.14 For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.14 He will carry out [his] orders concerning me as he does with so many other things. 14 For he performs that which is appointed for me. Many such things are with him.14 For he will perform what is appointed for me; and many such things are with him.
15 "Therefore, I would be dismayed at His presence; When I consider, I am terrified of Him.15 Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.15 That is why I'm terrified of him. When I think of it, I'm afraid of him.15 Therefore I am terrified at his presence. When I consider, I am afraid of him.15 Therefore am I troubled at his presence; I consider, and I am afraid of him.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 "It is God who has made my heart faint, And the Almighty who has dismayed me,16 For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:16 God has discouraged me. The Almighty has filled me with terror.16 For God has made my heart faint. The Almighty has terrified me.16 For God hath made my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me;
17 But I am not silenced by the darkness, Nor deep gloom which covers me.17 Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face.17 But I am not silenced by the dark or by the thick darkness that covers my face.17 Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.17 Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he hidden the gloom from me.
