Job Asserts His Integrity
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "I have made a covenant with my eyes; How then could I gaze at a virgin?1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?1 "I have made an agreement with my eyes. Then how can I look with lust at a virgin?1 "I made a covenant with my eyes, how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; and how should I fix my regard upon a maid?
 "And what is the portion of God from above Or the heritage of the Almighty from on high?2 For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?2 What would God above do [to me]? What would be my inheritance from the Almighty on high?2 For what is the portion from God above, and the heritage from the Almighty on high?2 For what would have been my portion of +God from above, and what the heritage of the Almighty from on high?
 "Is it not calamity to the unjust And disaster to those who work iniquity?3 Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?3 Aren't there catastrophes for wicked people and disasters for those who do wrong?3 Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, and disaster to the workers of iniquity?3 Is not calamity for the unrighteous? and misfortune for the workers of iniquity?
 "Does He not see my ways And number all my steps?4 Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?4 Doesn't he see my ways and count all my steps?4 Doesn't he see my ways, and number all my steps?4 Doth not he see my ways, and number all my steps?
 "If I have walked with falsehood, And my foot has hastened after deceit,5 If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;5 "If I have walked with lies or my feet have run after deception,5 "If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot has hurried to deceit5 If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot hath hasted to deceit,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Let Him weigh me with accurate scales, And let God know my integrity.6 Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.6 [then] let God weigh me on honest scales, and he will know I have integrity.6 (let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity);6 (Let me be weighed in an even balance, and +God will take knowledge of my blamelessness;)
 "If my step has turned from the way, Or my heart followed my eyes, Or if any spot has stuck to my hands,7 If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;7 "If my steps have left the [proper] path, or my heart has followed [the desire of] my eyes, or my hands are stained [with sin],7 if my step has turned out of the way, if my heart walked after my eyes, if any defilement has stuck to my hands,7 If my step have turned out of the way, and my heart followed mine eyes, and if any blot cleaveth to my hands;
 Let me sow and another eat, And let my crops be uprooted.8 Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.8 [then] let someone else eat what I have planted, and let my crops be uprooted.8 then let me sow, and let another eat. Yes, let the produce of my field be rooted out.8 Let me sow, and another eat; and let mine offspring be rooted out.
 "If my heart has been enticed by a woman, Or I have lurked at my neighbor's doorway,9 If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;9 "If I have been seduced by a woman or I have secretly waited near my neighbor's door,9 "If my heart has been enticed to a woman, and I have laid wait at my neighbor's door,9 If my heart have been enticed unto a woman, so that I laid wait at my neighbour's door,
 May my wife grind for another, And let others kneel down over her.10 Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.10 [then] let my wife grind for another [man], and let other [men] kneel over her.10 then let my wife grind for another, and let others sleep with her.10 Let my wife grind for another, and let others bow down upon her.

 "For that would be a lustful crime; Moreover, it would be an iniquity punishable by judges.11 For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.11 That would be a scandal, and that would be a criminal offense.11 For that would be a heinous crime. Yes, it would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges:11 For this is an infamy; yea, it is an iniquity to be judged by the judges:
 "For it would be fire that consumes to Abaddon, And would uproot all my increase.12 For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.12 It would be a fire that burns even in Abaddon. It would uproot my entire harvest.12 For it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all my increase.12 For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.
 "If I have despised the claim of my male or female slaves When they filed a complaint against me,13 If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;13 "If I have abused the rights of my servants, male or female, when they have disagreed with me,13 "If I have despised the cause of my male servant or of my female servant, when they contended with me;13 If I have despised the cause of my bondman or of my bondmaid, when they contended with me,
 What then could I do when God arises? And when He calls me to account, what will I answer Him?14 What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?14 then what could I do if God rises up? If he examines me, how could I answer him?14 What then shall I do when God rises up? When he visits, what shall I answer him?14 What then should I do when God riseth up? and if he visited, what should I answer him?
 "Did not He who made me in the womb make him, And the same one fashion us in the womb?15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?15 Didn't he who made me in my mother's belly make them? Didn't the same God form us in the womb?15 Didn't he who made me in the womb make him? Didn't one fashion us in the womb?15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not One fashion us in the womb?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "If I have kept the poor from their desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,16 If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;16 "If I have refused the requests of the poor or made a widow's eyes stop [looking for help],16 "If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,16 If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or caused the eyes of the widow to fail;
 Or have eaten my morsel alone, And the orphan has not shared it17 Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;17 or have eaten my food alone without letting the orphan eat any of it....17 or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it17 Or have eaten my morsel alone, so that the fatherless ate not thereof,
 (But from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And from infancy I guided her),18 (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)18 (From my youth the orphan grew up with me as though I were his father, and from my birth I treated the widow kindly.)18 (no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, her have I guided from my mother's womb);18 (For from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, and I have guided the widow from my mother's womb;)
 If I have seen anyone perish for lack of clothing, Or that the needy had no covering,19 If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;19 If I have seen anyone die because he had no clothes or a poor person going naked....19 if I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering;19 If I have seen any perishing for want of clothing, or any needy without covering;
 If his loins have not thanked me, And if he has not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep,20 If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;20 (If his body didn't bless me, or the wool from my sheep didn't keep him warm....)20 if his heart hasn't blessed me, if he hasn't been warmed with my sheep's fleece;20 If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my lambs;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 If I have lifted up my hand against the orphan, Because I saw I had support in the gate,21 If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:21 If I have shaken my fist at an orphan because I knew that others would back me up in court,21 if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate,21 If I have lifted up my hand against an orphan, because I saw my help in the gate:
 Let my shoulder fall from the socket, And my arm be broken off at the elbow.22 Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.22 [then] let my shoulder fall out of its socket, and let my arm be broken at the elbow.22 then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.22 Then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder-blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone!
 "For calamity from God is a terror to me, And because of His majesty I can do nothing.23 For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.23 "A disaster from God terrifies me. In the presence of his majesty I can do nothing.23 For calamity from God is a terror to me. Because his majesty, I can do nothing.23 For calamity from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his excellency I was powerless.
 "If I have put my confidence in gold, And called fine gold my trust,24 If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;24 "If I put my confidence in gold or said to fine gold, 'I trust you'....24 "If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, 'You are my confidence;'24 If I have made gold my hope, or said to the fine gold, My confidence!
 If I have gloated because my wealth was great, And because my hand had secured so much;25 If I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;25 If I enjoyed being very rich because my hand had found great [wealth]....25 If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;25 If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 If I have looked at the sun when it shone Or the moon going in splendor,26 If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;26 If I saw the light shine or the moon move along in its splendor26 if I have seen the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in splendor,26 If I beheld the sun when it shone, or the moon walking in brightness,
 And my heart became secretly enticed, And my hand threw a kiss from my mouth,27 And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:27 so that my heart was secretly tempted, and I threw them a kiss with my hand,27 and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my hand threw a kiss from my mouth,27 And my heart have been secretly enticed, so that my mouth kissed my hand:
 That too would have been an iniquity calling for judgment, For I would have denied God above.28 This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.28 then that, too, would be a criminal offense, and I would have denied God above.28 this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges; for I should have denied the God who is above.28 This also would be an iniquity for the judge, for I should have denied the God who is above.
 "Have I rejoiced at the extinction of my enemy, Or exulted when evil befell him?29 If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:29 "If I enjoyed the ruin of my enemy or celebrated when harm came to him29 "If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him;29 If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, and exulted when evil befell him;
 "No, I have not allowed my mouth to sin By asking for his life in a curse.30 Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.30 (even though I didn't speak sinfully by calling down a curse on his life)....30 (yes, I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse);30 (Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse;)
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "Have the men of my tent not said, 'Who can find one who has not been satisfied with his meat '?31 If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.31 "If the people who were in my tent had said, 'We wish we had never filled [our stomachs] with his food'....31 if the men of my tent have not said, 'Who can find one who has not been filled with his meat?'31 If the men of my tent said not, Who shall find one that hath not been satisfied with his meat? --
 "The alien has not lodged outside, For I have opened my doors to the traveler.32 The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.32 (The visitor never spent the night outside, because I opened my door to the traveler.)32 (the foreigner has not lodged in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler);32 The stranger did not lodge without; I opened my doors to the pathway.
 "Have I covered my transgressions like Adam, By hiding my iniquity in my bosom,33 If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:33 "If I have covered my disobedience like Adam and kept my sin to myself,33 if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart,33 If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom,
 Because I feared the great multitude, And the contempt of families terrified me, And kept silent and did not go out of doors?34 Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?34 because I dreaded the large, noisy crowd and because the contempt of the [local] mobs terrified me so that I kept quiet and didn't go outside....34 because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and didn't go out of the door--34 Because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and went not out of the door, ...
 "Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold, here is my signature; Let the Almighty answer me! And the indictment which my adversary has written,35 Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.35 "If only I had someone who would listen to me! Look, here is my signature! Let the Almighty answer me. Let the prosecutor write [his complaint] on a scroll.35 oh that I had one to hear me! (behold, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me); let the accuser write my indictment!35 Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold my signature: let the Almighty answer me! And let mine opponent write an accusation!
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Surely I would carry it on my shoulder, I would bind it to myself like a crown.36 Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.36 I would certainly carry it on my shoulder and place it on my head like a crown.36 Surely I would carry it on my shoulder; and I would bind it to me as a crown.36 Would I not take it upon my shoulder? I would bind it on to me as a crown;
 "I would declare to Him the number of my steps; Like a prince I would approach Him.37 I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.37 I would tell him the number of my steps and approach him like a prince.37 I would declare to him the number of my steps. as a prince would I go near to him.37 I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I come near to him.
 "If my land cries out against me, And its furrows weep together;38 If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;38 "If my land has cried out against me, and its furrows have wept....38 If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together;38 If my land cry out against me, and its furrows weep together;
 If I have eaten its fruit without money, Or have caused its owners to lose their lives,39 If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:39 If I have eaten its produce without paying for it and made its owners breathe their last,39 if I have eaten its fruits without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life,39 If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, and have tormented to death the souls of its owners:
 Let briars grow instead of wheat, And stinkweed instead of barley." The words of Job are ended.40 Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.40 [then] let it grow thistles instead of wheat, and foul-smelling weeds instead of barley." This is the end of Job's words.40 let briars grow instead of wheat, and stinkweed instead of barley." The words of Job are ended.40 Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and tares instead of barley.
