Elihu Vindicates God’s Justice
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Then Elihu continued and said,1 Furthermore Elihu answered and said,1 Elihu continued to speak [to Job and his friends],1 Moreover Elihu answered,1 Moreover Elihu answered and said,
 "Hear my words, you wise men, And listen to me, you who know.2 Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.2 "Listen to my words, you wise men. Open your ears to me, you intelligent men.2 "Hear my words, you wise men. Give ear to me, you who have knowledge.2 Hear my words, ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
 "For the ear tests words As the palate tastes food.3 For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.3 The ear tests words like the tongue tastes food.3 For the ear tries words, as the palate tastes food.3 For the ear trieth words, as the palate tasteth food.
 "Let us choose for ourselves what is right; Let us know among ourselves what is good.4 Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.4 Let's decide for ourselves what is right and agree among ourselves as to what is good,4 Let us choose for us that which is right. Let us know among ourselves what is good.4 Let us choose for ourselves what is right; let us know among ourselves what is good!
 "For Job has said, 'I am righteous, But God has taken away my right;5 For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.5 because Job has said, 'I'm righteous, but God has taken away my rights.5 For Job has said, 'I am righteous, God has taken away my right:5 For Job hath said, I am righteous, and God hath taken away my judgment:
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Should I lie concerning my right? My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.'6 Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.6 I'm considered a liar in spite of my rights. I've been wounded by a deadly arrow, though I haven't been disobedient.'6 Notwithstanding my right I am considered a liar. My wound is incurable, though I am without disobedience.'6 Should I lie against my right? My wound is incurable without transgression.
 "What man is like Job, Who drinks up derision like water,7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?7 What person is like Job, who drinks scorn like water,7 What man is like Job, who drinks scorn like water,7 What man is like Job? he drinketh up scorning like water,
 Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, And walks with wicked men?8 Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.8 who travels with troublemakers and associates with evil people?8 Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men?8 And goeth in company with workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
 "For he has said, 'It profits a man nothing When he is pleased with God.'9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.9 He says, 'It doesn't do any good to try to please God.'9 For he has said, 'It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.'9 For he hath said, It profiteth not a man if he delight himself in God.
 "Therefore, listen to me, you men of understanding. Far be it from God to do wickedness, And from the Almighty to do wrong.10 Therefore hearken unto me ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.10 "You people who have understanding, listen to me. It is unthinkable that God would ever do evil or that the Almighty would ever do wicked things.10 "Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: Far be wickedness from God, and wrong from the Almighty!
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "For He pays a man according to his work, And makes him find it according to his way.11 For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.11 God will repay humanity for what it has done and will give each person what he deserves.11 For the work of a man he will render to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.11 For a man's work will he render to him, and cause every one to find according to his way.
 "Surely, God will not act wickedly, And the Almighty will not pervert justice.12 Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.12 Certainly, God will never do anything evil, and the Almighty will never pervert justice.12 Yes surely, God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert justice.12 Yea, surely, God acteth not wickedly, and the Almighty perverteth not judgment.
 "Who gave Him authority over the earth? And who has laid on Him the whole world?13 Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?13 Who put him in charge of the earth? Who appointed him to be over the whole world?13 Who put him in charge of the earth? or who has appointed him over the whole world?13 Who hath entrusted to him the earth? and who hath disposed the whole world?
 "If He should determine to do so, If He should gather to Himself His spirit and His breath,14 If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;14 If he thought only of himself and withdrew his Spirit and his breath,14 If he set his heart on himself, If he gathered to himself his spirit and his breath,14 If he only thought of himself, and gathered unto him his spirit and his breath,
 All flesh would perish together, And man would return to dust.15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.15 all living beings would die together, and humanity would return to dust.15 all flesh would perish together, and man would turn again to dust.15 All flesh would expire together, and man would return to the dust.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "But if you have understanding, hear this; Listen to the sound of my words.16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.16 "If you understand, listen to this. Open your ears to my words!16 "If now you have understanding, hear this. Listen to the voice of my words.16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this: give ear to the voice of my words!
 "Shall one who hates justice rule? And will you condemn the righteous mighty One,17 Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?17 Should anyone who hates justice be allowed to govern? Will you condemn the one who is righteous and mighty?17 Shall even one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty?--17 Should he that hateth right indeed govern? and wilt thou condemn the All-just?
 Who says to a king, 'Worthless one,' To nobles, 'Wicked ones';18 Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?18 Should anyone [even] say to a king, 'You good-for-nothing scoundrel!' or to nobles, 'You wicked people!'18 Who says to a king, 'Vile!' or to nobles, 'Wicked!'?18 Shall one say to a king, Belial? to nobles, Wicked?
 Who shows no partiality to princes Nor regards the rich above the poor, For they all are the work of His hands?19 How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.19 The one who is righteous and mighty does not grant special favors to princes or prefer important people over poor people because his hands made them all.19 Who doesn't respect the persons of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands.19 How then to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich man more than the poor? for they are all the work of his hands.
 "In a moment they die, and at midnight People are shaken and pass away, And the mighty are taken away without a hand.20 In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.20 They die suddenly in the middle of the night. People have seizures and pass away. Mighty people are taken away but not by human hands.20 In a moment they die, even at midnight. The people are shaken and pass away. The mighty are taken away without a hand.20 In a moment they die, even at midnight the people are convulsed and pass away; and the strong are taken away without hand.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "For His eyes are upon the ways of a man, And He sees all his steps.21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.21 God's eyes are on a person's ways. He sees all his steps.21 "For his eyes are on the ways of a man. He sees all his goings.21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his steps.
 "There is no darkness or deep shadow Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.22 There's no darkness or deep shadow where troublemakers can hide.22 There is no darkness, nor thick gloom, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
 "For He does not need to consider a man further, That he should go before God in judgment.23 For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.23 He doesn't have to set a time for a person in order to bring him to divine judgment.23 For he doesn't need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment.23 For he doth not long consider a man, to bring him before God in judgment.
 "He breaks in pieces mighty men without inquiry, And sets others in their place.24 He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.24 He breaks mighty people into pieces without examining them and puts others in their places.24 He breaks in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out, and sets others in their place.24 He breaketh in pieces mighty men without inquiry, and setteth others in their stead;
 "Therefore He knows their works, And He overthrows them in the night, And they are crushed.25 Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.25 He knows what they do, so he overthrows them at night, and they're crushed.25 Therefore he takes knowledge of their works. He overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.25 Since he knoweth their actions; and he overthroweth them in the night, and they are crushed.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "He strikes them like the wicked In a public place,26 He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;26 In return for their evil, he strikes them in public,26 He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others;26 He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others,
 Because they turned aside from following Him, And had no regard for any of His ways;27 Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:27 because they turned away from following him and didn't consider any of his ways.27 because they turned aside from following him, and wouldn't pay attention to any of his ways,27 Because they have turned back from him, and would consider none of his ways;
 So that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him, And that He might hear the cry of the afflicted--28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.28 They forced the poor to cry out to him, and he hears the cry of those who suffer.28 so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him. He heard the cry of the afflicted.28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.
 When He keeps quiet, who then can condemn? And when He hides His face, who then can behold Him, That is, in regard to both nation and man?--29 When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:29 If he keeps quiet, who can condemn him? If he hides his face, who can see him whether it is a nation or a single person?29 When he gives quietness, who then can condemn? When he hides his face, who then can see him? Alike whether to a nation, or to a man,29 When he giveth quietness, who then will disturb? and when he hideth his face, who shall behold him? and this towards a nation, or towards a man alike;
 So that godless men would not rule Nor be snares of the people.30 That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.30 [He does this] so that godless people cannot rule and so that they cannot trap people.30 that the godless man may not reign, that there be no one to ensnare the people.30 That the ungodly man reign not, that the people be not ensnared.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "For has anyone said to God, 'I have borne chastisement; I will not offend anymore;31 Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:31 "But suppose such a person says to God, 'I am guilty, I will stop my immoral behavior.31 "For has any said to God, 'I am guilty, but I will not offend any more.31 For hath he said unto God, I bear chastisement, I will not offend;
 Teach me what I do not see; If I have done iniquity, I will not do it again '?32 That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.32 Teach me what I cannot see. If I've done wrong, I won't do it again.'32 Teach me that which I don't see. If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more'?32 What I see not, teach thou me; if I have done wrong, I will do so no more?
 "Shall He recompense on your terms, because you have rejected it? For you must choose, and not I; Therefore declare what you know.33 Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.33 Should God reward you on your own terms since you have rejected his? You must choose, not I. Tell me what you know. Speak!33 Shall his recompense be as you desire, that you refuse it? For you must choose, and not I. Therefore speak what you know.33 Shall he recompense according to thy mind? for thou hast refused his judgment; for thou so choosest, and not I; speak then what thou knowest.
 "Men of understanding will say to me, And a wise man who hears me,34 Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.34 "People of understanding, the wise people who listen to me, will say,34 Men of understanding will tell me, yes, every wise man who hears me:34 Men of understanding will say to me, and a wise man who heareth me:
 'Job speaks without knowledge, And his words are without wisdom.35 Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.35 'Job speaks without knowledge. His words show no insight.'35 'Job speaks without knowledge. His words are without wisdom.'35 Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were not with intelligence.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 'Job ought to be tried to the limit, Because he answers like wicked men.36 My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.36 "My Father, let Job be thoroughly tested for giving answers like wicked people do.36 I wish that Job were tried to the end, because of his answering like wicked men.36 Would that Job may be tried unto the end, because of his answers after the manner of evil men!
 'For he adds rebellion to his sin; He claps his hands among us, And multiplies his words against God.'"37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.37 He adds disobedience to his sin. He claps his hands to insult us. He multiplies his words against God."37 For he adds rebellion to his sin. He claps his hands among us, and multiplies his words against God."37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
