Elihu Speaks of God’s Dealings with Men
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Then Elihu continued and said,1 Elihu also proceeded, and said,1 Elihu continued to speak [to Job],1 Elihu also continued, and said,1 And Elihu proceeded and said,
"Wait for me a little, and I will show you That there is yet more to be said in God's behalf.2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God's behalf.2 "Be patient with me a little longer, and I will show you that there is more to be said in God's defense.2 "Bear with me a little, and I will show you; for I still have something to say on God's behalf.2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet words for +God.
"I will fetch my knowledge from afar, And I will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.3 I will get my knowledge from far away and prove that my Creator is fair.3 I will get my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Creator.
"For truly my words are not false; One who is perfect in knowledge is with you.4 For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.4 Certainly, my words are not lies. The one who knows everything is [speaking] with you.4 For truly my words are not false. One who is perfect in knowledge is with you.4 For truly my words shall be no falsehood: one perfect in knowledge is with thee.
"Behold, God is mighty but does not despise any; He is mighty in strength of understanding.5 Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.5 "Certainly, God is mighty. He doesn't despise anyone. He is mighty and brave.5 "Behold, God is mighty, and doesn't despise anyone. He is mighty in strength of understanding.5 Lo, God is mighty, but despiseth not any; mighty in strength of understanding:
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"He does not keep the wicked alive, But gives justice to the afflicted.6 He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.6 He doesn't allow the wicked person to live. He grants justice to those who are oppressed.6 He doesn't preserve the life of the wicked, but gives to the afflicted their right.6 He saveth not the wicked alive; but he doeth justice to the afflicted.
"He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous; But with kings on the throne He has seated them forever, and they are exalted.7 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.7 He doesn't take his eyes off righteous people. He seats them on thrones with kings to honor them forever.7 He doesn't withdraw his eyes from the righteous, but with kings on the throne, he sets them forever, and they are exalted.7 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous, but with kings on the throne doth he even set them for ever; and they are exalted.
"And if they are bound in fetters, And are caught in the cords of affliction,8 And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction;8 However, if righteous people are bound in chains and tangled in ropes of misery,8 If they are bound in fetters, and are taken in the cords of afflictions,8 And if, bound in fetters, they be held in cords of affliction,
Then He declares to them their work And their transgressions, that they have magnified themselves.9 Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.9 he tells them what they've done wrong and that they've behaved arrogantly.9 then he shows them their work, and their transgressions, that they have behaved themselves proudly.9 Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions, because they have increased.
"He opens their ear to instruction, And commands that they return from evil.10 He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.10 He makes them listen to his warning and orders them to turn away from wrong.10 He also opens their ears to instruction, and commands that they return from iniquity.10 And he openeth their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"If they hear and serve Him, They will end their days in prosperity And their years in pleasures.11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.11 "If righteous people listen and serve [him], they will live out their days in prosperity and their years in comfort.11 If they listen and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.11 If they hearken and serve him, they shall accomplish their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
"But if they do not hear, they shall perish by the sword And they will die without knowledge.12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.12 But if they don't listen, they will cross the River [of Death] and die like those who have no knowledge.12 But if they don't listen, they shall perish by the sword; they shall die without knowledge.12 But if they hearken not, they shall pass away by the sword, and expire without knowledge.
"But the godless in heart lay up anger; They do not cry for help when He binds them.13 But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.13 But those who have godless hearts remain angry. They don't even call for help when he chains them up.13 "But those who are godless in heart lay up anger. They don't cry for help when he binds them.13 But the godless in heart heap up anger; they cry not when he bindeth them:
"They die in youth, And their life perishes among the cult prostitutes.14 They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.14 They die while they're young, or they live on as male prostitutes in the temples of idols.14 They die in youth. Their life perishes among the unclean.14 Their soul dieth in youth, and their life is among the unclean.
"He delivers the afflicted in their affliction, And opens their ear in time of oppression.15 He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.15 He rescues suffering people through their suffering, and he opens their ears through distress.15 He delivers the afflicted by their affliction, and opens their ear in oppression.15 But he delivereth the afflicted in his affliction, and openeth their ear in their oppression.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"Then indeed, He enticed you from the mouth of distress, Instead of it, a broad place with no constraint; And that which was set on your table was full of fatness.16 Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.16 "Yes, he lured you away from the jaws of trouble into an open area where you were not restrained, and your table was covered with rich foods.16 Yes, he would have allured you out of distress, into a broad place, where there is no restriction. That which is set on your table would be full of fatness.16 Even so would he have allured thee out of the jaws of distress into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and the supply of thy table would be full of fatness.
"But you were full of judgment on the wicked; Judgment and justice take hold of you.17 But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.17 But you are given the judgment evil people deserve. A fair judgment will be upheld.17 "But you are full of the judgment of the wicked. Judgment and justice take hold of you.17 But thou art full of the judgments of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.
"Beware that wrath does not entice you to scoffing; And do not let the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.18 Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee.18 Be careful that you are not led astray with riches. Don't let a large bribe turn you [to evil ways].18 Don't let riches entice you to wrath, neither let the great size of a bribe turn you aside.18 Because there is wrath, beware lest it take thee away through chastisement: then a great ransom could not avail thee.
"Will your riches keep you from distress, Or all the forces of your strength?19 Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.19 Will your riches save you from having to suffer? Will all your mighty strength help you?19 Would your wealth sustain you in distress, or all the might of your strength?19 Will he esteem thy riches? Not gold, nor all the resources of strength!
"Do not long for the night, When people vanish in their place.20 Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.20 Don't look forward to the night, when people disappear from their places.20 Don't desire the night, when people are cut off in their place.20 Desire not the night, when peoples are cut off from their place.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"Be careful, do not turn to evil, For you have preferred this to affliction.21 Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.21 Be careful! Don't turn to evil, because you have chosen evil instead of suffering. 21 Take heed, don't regard iniquity; for you have chosen this rather than affliction.21 Take heed, turn not to iniquity; for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.
"Behold, God is exalted in His power; Who is a teacher like Him?22 Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?22 "God does great things by his power. Is there any teacher like him?22 Behold, God is exalted in his power. Who is a teacher like him?22 Lo, God is exalted in his power: who teacheth as he?
"Who has appointed Him His way, And who has said, 'You have done wrong '?23 Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity?23 Who can tell him which way he should go? Who can say to him, 'You did wrong'?23 Who has prescribed his way for him? Or who can say, 'You have committed unrighteousness?'23 Who hath appointed him his way? or who hath said, Thou hast wrought unrighteousness?
"Remember that you should exalt His work, Of which men have sung.24 Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.24 Remember that you should praise his work. People have sung about it.24 "Remember that you magnify his work, whereof men have sung.24 Remember that thou magnify his work, which men celebrate.
"All men have seen it; Man beholds from afar.25 Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off.25 Every person has seen it. Mortals have looked at it from a distance.25 All men have looked thereon. Man sees it afar off.25 All men look at it; man beholdeth it afar off.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"Behold, God is exalted, and we do not know Him; The number of His years is unsearchable.26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.26 "Certainly, God is so great that he is beyond our understanding. The number of his years cannot be counted.26 Behold, God is great, and we don't know him. The number of his years is unsearchable.26 Lo, God is great, and we comprehend him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.
"For He draws up the drops of water, They distill rain from the mist,27 For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:27 He collects drops of water. He distills rain from his mist,27 For he draws up the drops of water, which distill in rain from his vapor,27 For he draweth up the drops of water: they distil in rain from the vapour which he formeth,
Which the clouds pour down, They drip upon man abundantly.28 Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.28 which then drips from the clouds. It pours down on many people.28 Which the skies pour down and which drop on man abundantly.28 Which the skies pour down and drop upon man abundantly.
"Can anyone understand the spreading of the clouds, The thundering of His pavilion?29 Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?29 Can anyone really understand how clouds spread out or how he thunders from his dwelling place?29 Yes, can any understand the spreading of the clouds, and the thunderings of his pavilion?29 But can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the crashing of his pavilion?
"Behold, He spreads His lightning about Him, And He covers the depths of the sea.30 Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.30 Look, he scatters his flashes of lightning around him and covers the depths of the sea.30 Behold, he spreads his light around him. He covers the bottom of the sea.30 Lo, he spreadeth his light around him, and covereth the bottom of the sea.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"For by these He judges peoples; He gives food in abundance.31 For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance.31 This is how he uses the rains to provide for people and to give them more than enough food.31 For by these he judges the people. He gives food in abundance.31 For with them he judgeth the peoples; he giveth food in abundance.
"He covers His hands with the lightning, And commands it to strike the mark.32 With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt.32 He fills his hands with lightning and orders it to hit the target.32 He covers his hands with the lightning, and commands it to strike the mark.32 His hands he covereth with lightning, and commandeth it where it is to strike.
"Its noise declares His presence; The cattle also, concerning what is coming up.33 The noise thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour.33 The thunder announces his coming. The storm announces his angry wrath.33 Its noise tells about him, and the livestock also concerning the storm that comes up.33 His thundering declareth concerning him; the cattle even, concerning its coming.
