Eliphaz: Innocent Do Not Suffer
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,1 Then Eliphaz from Teman replied [to Job],1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,1 And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 "If one ventures a word with you, will you become impatient? But who can refrain from speaking?2 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?2 "If someone tries to talk to you, will you become impatient? But who can keep from talking?2 "If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?2 If a word were essayed to thee, wouldest thou be grieved? But who can refrain from speaking?
3 "Behold you have admonished many, And you have strengthened weak hands.3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.3 Certainly, you have instructed many people: When hands were weak, you made them strong.3 Behold, you have instructed many, you have strengthened the weak hands.3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands;
4 "Your words have helped the tottering to stand, And you have strengthened feeble knees.4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.4 When someone stumbled, you lifted him up with your words. When knees were weak, you gave them strength.4 Your words have supported him who was falling, You have made firm the feeble knees.4 Thy words have upholden him that was stumbling, and thou hast braced up the bending knees:
5 "But now it has come to you, and you are impatient; It touches you, and you are dismayed.5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.5 But trouble comes to you, and you're impatient. It touches you, and you panic.5 But now it is come to you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled.5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou grievest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 "Is not your fear of God your confidence, And the integrity of your ways your hope?6 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?6 Doesn't your fear of God give you confidence and your lifetime of integrity give you hope?6 Isn't your piety your confidence? Isn't the integrity of your ways your hope?6 Hath not thy piety been thy confidence, and the perfection of thy ways thy hope?
7 "Remember now, who ever perished being innocent? Or where were the upright destroyed?7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?7 "Now think about this: Which innocent person [ever] died [an untimely death]? Find me a decent person who has been destroyed.7 "Remember, now, whoever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?7 Remember, I pray thee, who that was innocent has perished? and where were the upright cut off?
8 "According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity And those who sow trouble harvest it.8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.8 Whenever I saw those who plowed wickedness and planted misery, they gathered its harvest.8 According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity, and sow trouble, reap the same.8 Even as I have seen, they that plough iniquity and sow mischief, reap the same.
9 "By the breath of God they perish, And by the blast of His anger they come to an end.9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.9 God destroys them with his breath and kills them with a blast of his anger.9 By the breath of God they perish. By the blast of his anger are they consumed.9 By the breath of +God they perish, and by the blast of his nostrils are they consumed.
10 "The roaring of the lion and the voice of the fierce lion, And the teeth of the young lions are broken.10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.10 Though the roar of the lion and the growl of the ferocious lion [is loud], the young lions have had their teeth knocked out.10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken.10 The roar of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 "The lion perishes for lack of prey, And the whelps of the lioness are scattered.11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.11 The old lions die without any prey [to eat], and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.11 The old lion perishes for lack of prey. The cubs of the lioness are scattered abroad.11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered.
12 "Now a word was brought to me stealthily, And my ear received a whisper of it.12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.12 "I was told something secretly and heard something whispered in my ear.12 "Now a thing was secretly brought to me. My ear received a whisper of it.12 Now to me a word was secretly brought, and mine ear received a whisper thereof.
13 "Amid disquieting thoughts from the visions of the night, When deep sleep falls on men,13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,13 With disturbing thoughts from visions in the night, when deep sleep falls on people,13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men,13 In thoughts from visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men: --
14 Dread came upon me, and trembling, And made all my bones shake.14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.14 fear and trembling came over me, and all my bones shook.14 fear came on me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake.14 Fear came on me, and trembling, and made all my bones to shake;
15 "Then a spirit passed by my face; The hair of my flesh bristled up.15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:15 A spirit passed in front of me. It made my hair stand on end.15 Then a spirit passed before my face. The hair of my flesh stood up.15 And a spirit passed before my face the hair of my flesh stood up --
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 "It stood still, but I could not discern its appearance; A form was before my eyes; There was silence, then I heard a voice:16 It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,16 Something stood there. I couldn't tell what it was. A vague image was in front of my eyes. I heard a soft voice:16 It stood still, but I couldn't discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes. Silence, then I heard a voice, saying,16 It stood still; I could not discern the appearance thereof: a form was before mine eyes; I heard a slight murmur and a voice:
17 'Can mankind be just before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker?17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?17 'Can [any] mortal be righteous to God? Can [any] human being be pure to his maker?'17 'Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?17 Shall mortal man be more just than +God? Shall a man be purer than his Maker?
18 'He puts no trust even in His servants; And against His angels He charges error.18 Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:18 "You see, God doesn't trust his own servants, and he accuses his angels of making mistakes.18 Behold, he puts no trust in his servants. He charges his angels with error.18 Lo, he trusteth not his servants, and his angels he chargeth with folly:
19 'How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, Whose foundation is in the dust, Who are crushed before the moth!19 How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?19 How much more will he accuse those who live in clay houses that have their foundation in the dust. Those houses can be crushed quicker than a moth!19 How much more, those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!19 How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed as the moth!
20 'Between morning and evening they are broken in pieces; Unobserved, they perish forever.20 They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.20 From morning to evening, they are shattered. They will disappear forever without anyone paying attention.20 Between morning and evening they are destroyed. They perish forever without any regarding it.20 From morning to evening are they smitten: without any heeding it, they perish for ever.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 'Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? They die, yet without wisdom.'21 Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.21 Haven't the ropes of their tent been loosened? Won't they die without wisdom?21 Isn't their tent cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.'21 Is not their tent-cord torn away in them? they die, and without wisdom.
