BOOK 3The End of the Wicked Contrasted with That of the Righteous.A Psalm of Asaph.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 A Psalm of Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, To those who are pure in heart!1 Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.1 [A psalm by Asaph.] God is truly good to Israel, to those whose lives are pure.1 Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.1 {A Psalm of Asaph.} Truly God is good to Israel, to such as are of a pure heart.
 But as for me, my feet came close to stumbling, My steps had almost slipped.2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.2 But my feet had almost stumbled. They had almost slipped2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone. My steps had nearly slipped.2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone, my steps had well nigh slipped;
 For I was envious of the arrogant As I saw the prosperity of the wicked.3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.3 because I was envious of arrogant people when I saw the prosperity that wicked people enjoy.3 For I was envious of the arrogant, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.3 For I was envious at the arrogant, seeing the prosperity of the wicked.
 For there are no pains in their death, And their body is fat.4 For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.4 They suffer no pain. Their bodies are healthy.4 For there are no struggles in their death, but their strength is firm.4 For they have no pangs in their death, and their body is well nourished;
 They are not in trouble as other men, Nor are they plagued like mankind.5 They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.5 They have no drudgery in their lives like ordinary people. They are not plagued [with problems] like others.5 They are free from burdens of men, neither are they plagued like other men.5 They have not the hardships of mankind, neither are they plagued like other men:

 Therefore pride is their necklace; The garment of violence covers them.6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.6 That is why they wear arrogance like a necklace and acts of violence like clothing.6 Therefore pride is like a chain around their neck. Violence covers them like a garment.6 Therefore pride encompasseth them as a neck-chain, violence covereth them as a garment;
 Their eye bulges from fatness; The imaginations of their heart run riot.7 Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.7 Their eyes peer out from their fat faces, and their imaginations run wild. 7 Their eyes bulge with fat. Their minds pass the limits of conceit.7 Their eyes stand out from fatness, they exceed the imaginations of their heart:
 They mock and wickedly speak of oppression; They speak from on high.8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.8 They ridicule. They speak maliciously. They speak arrogantly about oppression.8 They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression.8 They mock and speak wickedly of oppression, they speak loftily:
 They have set their mouth against the heavens, And their tongue parades through the earth.9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.9 They verbally attack heaven, and they order people around on earth.9 They have set their mouth in the heavens. Their tongue walks through the earth.9 They set their mouth in the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
 Therefore his people return to this place, And waters of abundance are drunk by them.10 Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.10 That is why God's people turn to wickedness and swallow their words. 10 Therefore their people return to them, and they drink up waters of abundance.10 Therefore his people turn hither, and waters in fulness are wrung out to them.

 They say, "How does God know? And is there knowledge with the Most High?"11 And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?11 Then wicked people ask, "What does God know?" "Does the Most High know anything?"11 They say, "How does God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?"11 And they say, How can God know, and is there knowledge in the Most High?
 Behold, these are the wicked; And always at ease, they have increased in wealth.12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.12 Look how wicked they are! They never have a worry. They grow more and more wealthy.12 Behold, these are the wicked. Being always at ease, they increase in riches.12 Behold, these are the wicked, and they prosper in the world: they heap up riches.
 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure And washed my hands in innocence;13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.13 I've received no reward for keeping my life pure and washing my hands of any blame.13 Surely in vain I have cleansed my heart, and washed my hands in innocence,13 Truly have I purified my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency:
 For I have been stricken all day long And chastened every morning.14 For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.14 I'm plagued [with problems] all day long, and every morning my punishment [begins again].14 For all day long have I been plagued, and punished every morning.14 For all the day have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.
 If I had said, "I will speak thus," Behold, I would have betrayed the generation of Your children.15 If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.15 If I had said, "I will continue to talk like that," I would have betrayed God's people.15 If I had said, "I will speak thus;" behold, I would have betrayed the generation of your children.15 If I said, I will speak thus, behold, I should be faithless to the generation of thy children.

 When I pondered to understand this, It was troublesome in my sight16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;16 But when I tried to understand this, it was too difficult for me.16 When I tried to understand this, it was too painful for me;16 When I thought to be able to know this, it was a grievous task in mine eyes;
 Until I came into the sanctuary of God; Then I perceived their end.17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.17 Only when I came into God's holy place did I [finally] understand what would happen to them.17 Until I entered God's sanctuary, and considered their latter end.17 Until I went into the sanctuaries of God; then understood I their end.
 Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction.18 Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.18 You put them in slippery places and make them fall into ruin.18 Surely you set them in slippery places. You throw them down to destruction.18 Truly thou settest them in slippery places, thou castest them down in ruins.
 How they are destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors!19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.19 They are suddenly destroyed. They are completely swept away by terror!19 How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors.19 How are they suddenly made desolate! they pass away, consumed with terrors.
 Like a dream when one awakes, O Lord, when aroused, You will despise their form.20 As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.20 As [someone] gets rid of a dream when he wakes up, so you, O Lord, get rid of the thought of them when you wake up.20 As a dream when one wakes up, so, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.20 As a dream, when one awaketh, wilt thou, Lord, on arising despise their image.

 When my heart was embittered And I was pierced within,21 Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.21 When my heart was filled with bitterness and my mind was seized [with envy],21 For my soul was grieved. I was embittered in my heart.21 When my heart was in a ferment, and I was pricked in my reins,
 Then I was senseless and ignorant; I was like a beast before You.22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.22 I was stupid, and I did not understand. I was like a dumb animal in your presence.22 I was so senseless and ignorant. I was a brute beast before you.22 Then I was brutish and knew nothing; I was as a beast with thee.
 Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand.23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.23 Yet, I am always with you. You hold on to my right hand.23 Nevertheless, I am continually with you. You have held my right hand.23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden my right hand;
 With Your counsel You will guide me, And afterward receive me to glory.24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.24 With your advice you guide me, and in the end you will take me to glory.24 You will guide me with your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.24 Thou wilt guide me by thy counsel, and after the glory, thou wilt receive me.
 Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.25 As long as I have you, I don't need anyone else in heaven or on earth.25 Who do I have in heaven? There is no one on earth who I desire besides you.25 Whom have I in the heavens? and there is none upon earth I desire beside thee.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.26 My body and mind may waste away, but God remains the foundation of my life and my inheritance forever.26 My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.26 My flesh and my heart faileth: God is the rock of my heart and my portion for ever.
 For, behold, those who are far from You will perish; You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to You.27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.27 Without a doubt, those who are far from you will die. You destroy all who are unfaithful to you.27 For, behold, those who are far from you shall perish. You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to you.27 For behold, they that are far from thee shall perish; thou destroyest every one that goeth a whoring from thee.
 But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works.28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.28 Being united with God is my highest good. I have made the Almighty LORD my refuge so that I may report everything that he has done.28 But it is good for me to come close to God. I have made the Lord Yahweh my refuge, that I may tell of all your works. A contemplation by Asaph.28 But as for me, it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord Jehovah, that I may declare all thy works.
