An Appeal against the Devastation of the Land by the Enemy.A Maskil of Asaph.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 A Maskil of Asaph. O God, why have You rejected us forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?1 O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?1 [A [maskil] by Asaph.] Why, O God, have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep in your care? 1 God, why have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?1 {An instruction: of Asaph.} Why, O God, hast thou cast off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?
 Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old, Which You have redeemed to be the tribe of Your inheritance; And this Mount Zion, where You have dwelt.2 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.2 Remember your congregation. Long ago you made it your own. You bought this tribe to be your possession. This tribe is Mount Zion, where you have made your home.2 Remember your congregation, which you purchased of old, which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your inheritance; Mount Zion, in which you have lived.2 Remember thine assembly, which thou hast purchased of old, which thou hast redeemed to be the portion of thine inheritance, this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
 Turn Your footsteps toward the perpetual ruins; The enemy has damaged everything within the sanctuary.3 Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.3 Turn your steps toward these pathetic ruins. The enemy has destroyed everything in the holy temple. 3 Lift up your feet to the perpetual ruins, all the evil that the enemy has done in the sanctuary.3 Lift up thy steps unto the perpetual desolations: everything in the sanctuary hath the enemy destroyed.
 Your adversaries have roared in the midst of Your meeting place; They have set up their own standards for signs.4 Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.4 Your opponents have roared inside your meeting place. They have set up their own emblems as symbols.4 Your adversaries have roared in the midst of your assembly. They have set up their standards as signs.4 Thine adversaries roar in the midst of thy place of assembly; they set up their signs for signs.
 It seems as if one had lifted up His axe in a forest of trees.5 A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.5 Starting from its entrance, they hacked away like a woodcutter in a forest. 5 They behaved like men wielding axes, cutting through a thicket of trees.5 A man was known as he could lift up axes in the thicket of trees;

 And now all its carved work They smash with hatchet and hammers.6 But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.6 They smashed all its carved paneling with axes and hatchets.6 Now they break all its carved work down with hatchet and hammers.6 And now they break down its carved work altogether, with hatchets and hammers.
 They have burned Your sanctuary to the ground; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name.7 They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.7 They burned your holy place to the ground. They dishonored the place where you live among us.7 They have burned your sanctuary to the ground. They have profaned the dwelling place of your Name.7 They have set on fire thy sanctuary, they have profaned the habitation of thy name to the ground.
 They said in their heart, "Let us completely subdue them." They have burned all the meeting places of God in the land.8 They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.8 They said to themselves, "We will crush them." They burned every meeting place of God in the land.8 They said in their heart, "We will crush them completely." They have burned up all the places in the land where God was worshiped.8 They said in their heart, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all God's places of assembly in the land.
 We do not see our signs; There is no longer any prophet, Nor is there any among us who knows how long.9 We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.9 We no longer see miraculous signs. There are no prophets anymore. No one knows how long this will last.9 We see no miraculous signs. There is no longer any prophet, neither is there among us anyone who knows how long.9 We see not our signs; there is no more any prophet, neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
 How long, O God, will the adversary revile, And the enemy spurn Your name forever?10 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?10 How long, O God, will the enemy insult us? Will the enemy despise you forever?10 How long, God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme your name forever?10 How long, O God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy contemn thy name for ever?

 Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? From within Your bosom, destroy them!11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom.11 Why do you hold back your hand, especially your right hand? Take your hands out of your pockets. Destroy your enemies! 11 Why do you draw back your hand, even your right hand? Take it out of your pocket and consume them!11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, and thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom: consume them.
 Yet God is my king from of old, Who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth.12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.12 And yet, from long ago God has been my king, the one who has been victorious throughout the earth.12 Yet God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.12 But God is my king of old, accomplishing deliverances in the midst of the earth.
 You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.13 You stirred up the sea with your own strength. You smashed the heads of sea monsters in the water.13 You divided the sea by your strength. You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength; thou didst break the heads of the monsters on the waters:
 You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.14 You crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave them to the creatures of the desert for food. 14 You broke the heads of Leviathan in pieces. You gave him as food to people and desert creatures.14 Thou didst break in pieces the heads of leviathan, thou gavest him to be meat to those that people the desert.
 You broke open springs and torrents; You dried up ever-flowing streams.15 Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.15 You opened the springs and brooks. You dried up the ever-flowing rivers.15 You opened up spring and stream. You dried up mighty rivers.15 Thou didst cleave fountain and torrent, thou driedst up ever-flowing rivers.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Yours is the day, Yours also is the night; You have prepared the light and the sun.16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.16 The day and the night are yours. You set the moon and the sun in their places.16 The day is yours, the night is also yours. You have prepared the light and the sun.16 The day is thine, the night also is thine; thou hast prepared the moon and the sun:
 You have established all the boundaries of the earth; You have made summer and winter.17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.17 You determined all the boundaries of the earth. You created summer and winter.17 You have set all the boundaries of the earth. You have made summer and winter.17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth; summer and winter thou didst form them.
 Remember this, O LORD, that the enemy has reviled, And a foolish people has spurned Your name.18 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.18 Remember how the enemy insulted you, O LORD. Remember how an entire nation of godless fools despised your name.18 Remember this, that the enemy has mocked you, Yahweh. Foolish people have blasphemed your name.18 Remember this, that an enemy hath reproached Jehovah, and a foolish people have contemned thy name.
 Do not deliver the soul of Your turtledove to the wild beast; Do not forget the life of Your afflicted forever.19 O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever.19 Do not hand over the soul of your dove to wild animals. Do not forget the life of your oppressed people forever.19 Don't deliver the soul of your dove to wild beasts. Don't forget the life of your poor forever.19 Give not up the soul of thy turtle-dove unto the wild beast; forget not the troop of thine afflicted for ever.
 Consider the covenant; For the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence.20 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.20 Consider your promise because every dark corner of the land is filled with violence. 20 Honor your covenant, for haunts of violence fill the dark places of the earth.20 Have respect unto the covenant; for the dark places of the earth are full of the dwellings of violence.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Let not the oppressed return dishonored; Let the afflicted and needy praise Your name.21 O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name.21 Do not let oppressed people come back in disgrace. Let weak and needy people praise your name.21 Don't let the oppressed return ashamed. Let the poor and needy praise your name.21 Oh let not the oppressed one return ashamed; let the afflicted and needy praise thy name.
 Arise, O God, and plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish man reproaches You all day long.22 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.22 Arise, O God! Fight for your own cause! Remember how godless fools insult you all day long.22 Arise, God! Plead your own cause. Remember how the foolish man mocks you all day.22 Rise up, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee all the day;
 Do not forget the voice of Your adversaries, The uproar of those who rise against You which ascends continually.23 Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.23 Do not forget the shouting of your opponents. Do not forget the uproar made by those who attack you.23 Don't forget the voice of your adversaries. The tumult of those who rise up against you ascends continually. For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A Psalm by Asaph. A song.23 Forget not the voice of thine adversaries: the tumult of those that rise up against thee ascendeth continually.
