BOOK 4God’s Eternity and Man’s Transitoriness.A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.1 Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.1 [A prayer by Moses, the man of God.] O Lord, you have been our refuge throughout every generation.1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place for all generations.1 {A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.} Lord, thou hast been our dwelling-place in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.2 Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, you were God. You are God from everlasting to everlasting.2 Before the mountains were brought forth, before you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.2 Before the mountains were brought forth, and thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from eternity to eternity thou art God.
3 You turn man back into dust And say, "Return, O children of men."3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.3 You turn mortals back into dust and say, "Return, descendants of Adam."3 You turn man to destruction, saying, "Return, you children of men."3 Thou makest mortal man to return to dust, and sayest, Return, children of men.
4 For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it passes by, Or as a watch in the night.4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.4 Indeed, in your sight a thousand years are like a single day, like yesterday-already past- like an hour in the night.4 For a thousand years in your sight are just like yesterday when it is past, like a watch in the night.4 For a thousand years, in thy sight, are as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
5 You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep; In the morning they are like grass which sprouts anew.5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.5 You sweep mortals away. They are a dream. They sprout again in the morning like cut grass.5 You sweep them away as they sleep. In the morning they sprout like new grass.5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass that groweth up:
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 In the morning it flourishes and sprouts anew; Toward evening it fades and withers away.6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.6 In the morning they blossom and sprout. In the evening they wither and dry up.6 In the morning it sprouts and springs up. By evening, it is withered and dry.6 In the morning it flourisheth and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down and withereth.
7 For we have been consumed by Your anger And by Your wrath we have been dismayed.7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.7 Indeed, your anger consumes us. Your rage terrifies us.7 For we are consumed in your anger. We are troubled in your wrath.7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy fury are we troubled.
8 You have placed our iniquities before You, Our secret sins in the light of Your presence.8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.8 You have set our sins in front of you. You have put our secret sins in the light of your presence.8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
9 For all our days have declined in Your fury; We have finished our years like a sigh.9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.9 Indeed, all our days slip away because of your fury. We live out our years like one [long] sigh.9 For all our days have passed away in your wrath. We bring our years to an end as a sigh.9 For all our days pass away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a passing thought.
10 As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, Or if due to strength, eighty years, Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; For soon it is gone and we fly away.10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.10 Each of us lives for 70 years- or even 80 if we are in good health. But the best of them [bring] trouble and misery. Indeed, they are soon gone, and we fly away. 10 The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away.10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if, by reason of strength, they be fourscore years, yet their pride is labour and vanity, for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 Who understands the power of Your anger And Your fury, according to the fear that is due You?11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.11 Who fully understands the power of your anger? A person fears you more when he better understands your fury. 11 Who knows the power of your anger, your wrath according to the fear that is due to you?11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? and thy wrath according to the fear of thee?
12 So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.12 Teach us to number each of our days so that we may grow in wisdom.12 So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.12 So teach us to number our days, that we may acquire a wise heart.
13 Do return, O LORD; how long will it be? And be sorry for Your servants.13 Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.13 Return, LORD! How long...? Change your plans about [us,] your servants.13 Relent, Yahweh! How long? Have compassion on your servants!13 Return, Jehovah: how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
14 O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, That we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.14 Satisfy us every morning with your mercy so that we may sing joyfully and rejoice all our days.14 Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.14 Satisfy us early with thy loving-kindness; that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad according to the days You have afflicted us, And the years we have seen evil.15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.15 Make us rejoice for as many days as you have made us suffer, for as many years as we have experienced evil.15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen evil.15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, according to the years wherein we have seen evil.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 Let Your work appear to Your servants And Your majesty to their children.16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.16 Let [us,] your servants, see what you can do. Let our children see your glorious power.16 Let your work appear to your servants; your glory to their children.16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy majesty unto their sons.
17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; And confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, confirm the work of our hands.17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.17 Let the kindness of the Lord our God be with us. Make us successful in everything we do. Yes, make us successful in everything we do.17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.17 And let the beauty of Jehovah our God be upon us; and establish thou the work of our hands upon us: yea, the work of our hands, establish thou it.
